Well, TKOP dropped by today, and left his little digital camera...I've been shooting up a storm, and in response to those sensation-seekers among you who have been howling for pics of this madman's lair...

This is what you see as soon as you come in...

In the right-rear corner, (if you've made it that far,) you'll note a small kitchen...(the bbq is not visible in this pic)

This is one view of what my little living area upstairs looks like.

Cozy, but it'll do for awhile!

Nice. I imagined you as a cruddy decrepit sloppy unwashed crusty old bandicoot.

And I sees I is completely off -- I sees an organized, clean, systematic, clean, professional coot.

Very nice pics, Knot.

Just one computer? Man, get moving! You need atleast 3-4 more to make that look like a THINK office :) Looks good though Knot! Like the decor and feel of the area. Some homie, and warm like.

Looks good.

I tend to have height problems in a loft setup like that, but that looks roomy, without sacrificing space upstairs or down.

Good use of space.:)

Bandicoot is a furry little animal, Knot! :P

With stripes. :bunny:

Nice loft there, mate. And the best bit is.... you did it all yerself!! :D

Knot doesn't have a height problem as such, Paul. :P

Ehhh, yeah.

That's the major downside of this twisted picnic, as the restroom facilities are about 100 paces from my door...

Although, this is why I am so grateful that somebody ran a water line into this particular unit (none of the other spaces in this Industrial Park have water lines in them) also, there is a "clean-out" line here as well!

It was a simple matter to obtain a cast-iron laundry sink from a local junkman (20 bucks, beat that, E-Bay! :D) and construct a sink and run the plumbing to it, and the drain directly into the waste line.

I swear, it was a total accident that I got the only unit here that had these features!!

Now you know why I've been talking lately about stopping every so often and having these little private conversations with God! It used to be very unlike me, but now it's like I'm seeing some kinda Plan, I think. :D

The whole thing just keeps working; a bit ROUGH, ya unnerstand... but I do manage to stay clean and presentable. It's do-able, with a little imagination.

do you have enough tools?

I can answer that one.

You can never have enough tools and that especialy goes for clamps. Knot may have just what he needs to get the job done but a nice 16" beam saw or maybe a 48" surface planer/sander would look realy good in there too. Theres probably a few things I cant see in that shop pict tucked away to the sides.

Thats a nice setup you have going on there. I want to build myself a garage/shop this summer. I miss working with all of my tools. My dirt floor shed just dosent cut it as a shop.

The peg-board in the kitchen is a nice work-man's touch. I put a sheet in the back of my walk-in closet in my last house and people laughed at me once then usually said it was a good idea. As we now share a common walk-in closet in our current house, I wasn't allowed to replace it. Next house - we build - and I get my own walk-in and keep my own sink!!! -

Love some of your artwork -

Lack of "facilities" is a drag - but you do what you have to.

The whole strategy revolves around these 1/2" x 7" steel bolts which were hammer-drilled and epoxied into the solid block wall at 36" intervals.

The 2" x 8" trusses are bolted onto 'em, and hold up the floor joists (heh, a year ago, I didn't even KNOW those words! :D)...Lemme assure you, there is NO creaking! :)

You can see 'em in this picture:

Your place looks Great :)

A year and half after WE moved, we still have a room full of boxes:o, and its the room that was my Mom's bedroom, and now she sleeps downstairs, blocking my access to the fridge, which i would otherwise raid every now and then around 3 AM in the morning:eek:

Roswell

But i think we are excused, because we moved twice during the year and half, and might move again:P. We moved from a 4 bedroom house to a 3 bedroom house and then to a 2 bedroom appartment, and had to get rid of alot of stuff...

yeah - off-screen there's this huge pile of dirty laundry and take-out containers with a large coal shovel leaning against the pile awaiting the next relocation out-of-frame ;-P

just kidding Knot -

My wife admit's she don't get the pegboard thing..... - not sure why - she's more practical than most - - and as for asthetics - you even painted the board..... and you didn't do the ULTIMATE tacky- outline the kitchen tools......

knothead
12-25-2004, 8:19 PM
Hahahaha! Yeah, all these weird life-forms and pizza boxes, all waiting to pounce into the frame!! :D

Actually, I tend to be fairly neat...saves me time looking for/tripping over stuff.

As for your wife and pegboard...Huh? What's not to "get"?

Pegboard over the workbench, hang your tools. Simple. :)

Pegboard in the kitchen, hang the cooking utensils...and bananas....saves counterspace!

Pegboard in the bedroom, that's where you keep the whips and chains, instead of under the bed, where they get all dusty an' stuff!

I truly sympathize with your conundrum, Axel! :D :D :D

Knot - didn't say my wife made sense.... -
and as for the milk crates - time to move - and you're not dumpster diving for move boxes -
WHAT - some people here never experienced life as a starving college student or something?!?

But then these youngsters don't appreciate that the LP's we used to lug around with us in the old days fit perfect into milk rates.... Now if they made pint sized crates that CD cases fit into - more of them might understand. - and before you provide me a link to the Container Store - yes - I know they make them.....

Admirable, the way you study my every move, Vavega. :D

It is a pegboard. Above the workbench. A Zen combination....as everything (including DucT Tape) is in a place...a place where Testosterone combines with the idea of moving parts. An endless sea of possibilities, which calms, and yet stimulates the Male mind. We Males lift our creative hand, and...

Yes, it's like a security blanket.

If you have enough duct tape, you know that you can fix anything: you could patch Hoover Dam in a pinch.

Duct tape could have saved the space shuttle, if only those girley-men in charge at NASA had thought to keep a carton on board.

Let's see how close I can get.... :D

1. Bottles hanging under shelf would contain nails, screws and stuff like that (at least, that's what I Keep in the Vegemite jars screwed under my bench! :P )

2. The rolling cart would be hiding... more shelves, I think! :D

3. A compressor... one with 100-150 psi no doubt!! For all those wonderful air tools... ;) Shop vac?? That's for girlies. Man use broom. :P

OK, how did I do, Knot?? :)

Some notes...
1. No nails, only SS (and brass) screws. I'm snotty about stuff like that. :P

2. The rolling (tool) cart contains 3 drawers, and the lower doors conceal a sliding shelf....I made it real quick before I moved out of my previous domicile, when I didn't know where I'd end up...so the idea was to make a portable unit where, if I wasn't able to have a shop, workbench, pegboard, etc., then at least I'd have a place to keep the hand tools that I could chain up and lock.

It's now the repository for my handplanes, REALLY fancy chisels, files, various handsaws, and some other good stuff that...well, just doesn't look good on the pegboard! :D

3: YEP! Only...200 PSI, 28 gallon tank. On wheels. AR! AR!! :D

(How on earth did Mick figure-out THAT one... )

Of course, I DO have a Shop-Vac, although it's used to BLOW-OUT the shop after I get done sweeping it...tools that suck are not on our interest list! :D

(How on earth did Mick figure-out THAT one... )
My uncle has a crash repair shop, and I worked there as a teen during holidays to get some spending money, so I know about air compressors at least! :P

And the smaller dental practices I now assess mainly use stand-alone compressors for [their air tools, so I see a fair few still. Not many 200psi ones, though!! :D

200psi... nice.

Cheers

I take it you have all seen the dangers of posting pics when VaVega is around? You could build a DIY Cray and proudly post images of your 500GHz monster sitting in the living room....only to be told the curtains were a funny shade.:D
