Thank you.

You sure thats completely legal RW? That doesnt sound like something you should really be doing. Maybe someone here can send ya a cd to use with your coa? Just my $.02.

Are you talking about making an image like a back-up that can be restored later? Norton Ghost would be the best bet. You can purchase it or if you have purchased a motherboard it sometimes comes bundled with the mobo driver disk.

I don't see a problem. If she is imaging back on the same machine when she is done tinkering. Or, if she takes ME off of it, she can put that image on another machine. It would be ugly, but she could.

the thing is, that the harddrive was the only working part of a rusted computer i found outside next to a dumpster, so i don't have the serial# anymore. I don't have the CD either. The harddrive is too big to use in the computer that i'm building, but i want to keep the OS, and use this harddrive in a super-slow file-server computer i'm gonna build. I will probably try to find someone who has Northon Ghost, so that i can move the OS to another disk and use that disk instead. The harddrive is the size of a CD drive, and about half as thick as one, and is impossible to mount inside a Gateway case

An old bigfoot :) If I get you correctly you want to move the OS from a small HD to a larger one in a differnet computer? You could always get the windows key by using Belarc advisor but then you would still need a disk. If moving to to a different system you will most likely end up with a handful of issue(mostly drivers)

The only down side I see to this is I don't see that it has burning abilities to CD, other then that it doesn't look bad.

Just ftp it to somewhere and burn from there. I believe it will break the file up too.

i already had the drive in the computer i want to use it in, i just couldn't mount it, so i'm gonna move the OS to a different drive, and i'll probably keep a backup copy, in case something goes wrong with the computer (virus, etc.)

you can do it with ghost or roxio 7 or something like that - but freeware - hm - not sure - you might look over one of my favorite freeware sites - www.nonags.com - I usually use the chicago mirror myself. As far as legal - questionable - but I doubt anyone'll make a stink over a copy of winME....
