I installed a new TDK burner today and now my hard drive led keeps on blinking.
The last time I had this happen was about five years ago and I'll be damned if I can remember how and if I got rid of it.
I tried disabling all the autoplay stuff in Tweakui but that wasn't it.
I'm using XP Home.
OK here's the deal...
I took out my TDK 12x VeloCD and replaced it with a TDK 32X VeloCD.
Brand new I just had to buy it for $109.00
I had a $50.00 gift certificate that was given to me.
It had a $50.00 rebate. So if ya do the math you know why I just had to buy it.
Anyway back to business at hand...
It's set as master all alone on IDE2, the hard drive led blinks once every second.
It didn't do this with the other burner so it is definately got something to do with this one.
Anyone ever have this problem before?
TIA
Well, this may be a shot in the dark, but here are some things you may want to try...
1. Try changing the IDE mode from PIO to UDMA if it isn't already set.
2. Try connecting the CDRW drive on another IDE channel.
3. Try setting the CDRW drive to slave.

Yeah start with what NDC suggested as I have a 32X TDK and a 40X TDK and neither do what your system is doing. Though my Config is slight different as I have
Primary
Master HD 1
Slave DVD drive
Secondary
Master TDK
Slave HD2
Raid
all 4 channels filled with HD's

Well I tried just about everything that everyone everywhere could come up with......:(
I even took the burner back and got another one.
Hooked it up turned it on and lo and behold blink blink blink...:jaw:
I have been in contact with TDK and they don't have a clue either.
So it's just gonna blink.
At least I don't have to worry about low flying aircraft......;)

Could it possibly the UDF drivers for the CD writer? The packet-writing drivers that give you the ability to write on the fly, as if the CD were a HD.
Personal I don't use any UDF drivers for this very reason. Every time I've installed them they make the system check the drive about once a second or so. I can't stand that.

I'm running Nero 5.5.9.0 do you know where the udf drivers are off of the top of your head.
Or how to disable or uninstall them.
I will see if I can find them in the mean time.
This sounds like your on the right track here thou..........:D
Thanks

It's the InCD Packet-Writing Software that I believe comes with your drive. I would not install it (or uninstall it if you already have). And see if that affects your problem.
Also, instead of uninstalling it, you might be able to just disable it from automatically starting up. In Win98 I'd use MSConfig to disable a startup item...I don't know how you might do it in XP.

I don't load INCD during the Nero install because I only use CDR's.
I wait till they are on sale and buy a mess of them.
Two weeks ago I bought 300 TDK 40X in 50 packs for $4.99 a fifty pack with the rebate.
Anyway I thought we were onto something until I saw the INCD part of your post.
Onward.............;)

Well drat. I don't know what else it could be.
Does it affect your performance in any way?

Performace is just fine.
When I used to build and repair machines for a small computer store you would get this same issue once in a while with plain CD-Rom's, but this is the first time I have seen a burner do this.
So I'll just wait and see......:)
Thanks

Well I decided to fix this once and for all.
I went and got a 48x TDK burner.
Burns a full Cd in about 2 1/2 minutes.
But unfortunately it also blinks blinks blinks.......

In the words of the Pink Panther, Problem Solve-Ed.........:)
I downloaded the firmware update off of TDK's website and installed it last night. Wallah no more blinky blinky. I don't know how long it's been there but it works and that's all that counts to me.........................;)
Just thought I'd post the fix I found to my problem for those many thousands who are experiencing this same problem.............
