View Full Version : KVM Switches
Here's my dilemma Guys.I have a 4-port kvm switch in use now with all ports used.I'm gonna need another one for the new Asus cruncher. It is possible for me to daisy chain another 4-port kvm switch from the original, or am I stuck going out and buying an 8-port kvm switch?

I don't think you can chain them Paul.
Did you get the board yet....:)
If it's programmable, they usually are capable of being daisy chained. Look at it's manual.

Or, if you get another brand that uses a different key, they will usually chain.
But, chained ones can be a pain. We use the at work with 1 K/M to 4-5 racks. Gotta do some hunting sometimes.

you shouldn't have any problem daisy-chaining them, same manufacturer or not...just as long as you chain them via the video and ps/2 connectors. don't expect the hotkey to work reliably though afterwards (a hotkey is simply the keystrokes some kvms support which allow swtiching from PCs #1-4 w/o having to press the kvm buttons manually).
you should look into controlling the PC via VNC or remote desktop (if it's XP)...you save a bundle on KVM's. :)
The switch I have is manual.I figured I could run the mouse, keyboard, video cable from port 4 to the input ports of switch 2.Switch 2 will also be a manual switch.I looked at the cost of 8 port switches and almost messed my pants!! It's the wrong time of the year to be putting out that kind of money on toys, for me!! Specially with 5 kids, and 3 Grandkids, to have to buy presents for.
Kev, it's not here yet, just planning ahead!! Once it gets here, I wanna have everything planned out, and have it crunchin as soon as possible!!
