I've had Lymphoma, and beaten it. What I did was made sure to eat a fair amount of Red Meat, it helped with my energy level, (was quite anemic before adn during treatments) and this got my blood counts to normal.
There are more positive stories, a couple that I know of on this team alone, one thing to keep in mind is don't let it knock you down, keep a sense of humour, be cheery, you may be the only one in the room that is, but it helps with your confidence. (and your head plays a good part in the recovery IMHO)

hope you're feeling better real soon :thumb:
need me to help take care of the farm? ;)
Thank you all for your support. It seems like a really great crew here. I have been at TechIMO for a while.
I wish we were meeting under different circumstances, but I am confident my wife will pull out of this, and get to know you all better.
I showed my wife your supportive comments. I was able to split the hospital line, and get my internet, while we are here.:) Not as fun as broadband at home, but still subdues the addiction.
I will check in daily. In the meantime please keep Thelma in your thoughts. She has now gone from a White Blood Count of 98.8, to 1.1. This is the 5th and final day of the first chemo. Now we need the good cells to multiply.
She can do it!! Will keep you posted

I've had two tumors removed from my back, one on my spine. There's another on my back but I'm not worried about it. And there's one on my Pineal gland, but its inoperable - would cause more harm than good. :D
Hey, a hole in the ground is better than nothin' :P
No, she's not ready to go home yet. We've got a second treatment to start in about 10 days, then she goes home :).
After that it will be 4 months of treatments every 2-3 days, then bloodchecks every 3 months for a year.
As of now all is good. She has had wonderful support from all over the world.
Thanks again,
Robert and Thelma -

Howdy PK, sorry to hear what your missus has to go through, but ATM it's the only treatment options they got, Hopefully some of the FAD stuff will help find better, less drastic ways to treat these things. :)
Will pray that all goes well for the next cycle, and that she picks up pretty quick after that and tolerates the rest. :)
Plum, all I can say is "OUCH!" Glad they got it all, though, that's half the worry when you find out its a bad one. :o But if they get it all them it's all good!! :D
My missus has got more painful enlarged breast lumps, but as she suffers from multiple fibroadenomas (benign tumours) it's a bit of a guessing game as to what the surgeon is gonna suggest. He might do another punch biospy and them decide, I reckon.
Cheers

mick i have a friend with the same thing and everytime she finds a new one she has to go thru the same worry all over. somehow she always finds the strength to deal with it. i'm not sure i could
PK,
tell thelma she has beautiful hair, but if it does go south on her, she can have it cut beforehand and made into a great wig! but here's hoping that never happens ;)
now i wonder why Plum wouldn't let me come down and plow for him  :D

Thelma & Plum, i am hopeful and confident that you both can get thru these difficult times and look forward to a better time ahead. it won't be easy but with the help & support of family and friends, it is achievable and when you believe it can happen, that is half the battle. :)
keep us posted and keep the faith!

Robert and thelma. My thoughts and prayers are with you. as some one said, there is way too much life behind that smile to let this thing beat you. I crunch Fad molecules to help folks like you.
I became involved in crunching against cancer, when my Dad was diagnosed with lung cancer. I lost him almost exactly 3 years ago. He was too old and had smoked WAY too many cigarettes.
However, I have a friend, who recently moved from here to Phoenix, that was stricken with lung cancer. He had a lung removed and fought the rest with chemo, and survived, triumphantly over it. 3 years later, he was diagnosed with brain cancer. Through surgery and chemo, he beat that.
What was most important to him, in his battles, was faith and cultivating his spirituality.
it was through him that I learned that this disease can be beaten. we just can't give in to it!
Take care and have faith. Let God shine through!

I don't usually like to express myself, my mental illness makes positive emotional verbal discussion(wow, what a mouthful) uncomfortable. But since this is encouragement about a negative topic, it's a little different.
My grandfather died 3-4 years ago of a stroke. 3-4 years before that he got, and miraculously beat(according to the doctors) cancer. Whether or not the cancer's effect on his system was what encouraged the stroke we'll never know, but until 2 weeks before his death, he was wonderfully independent. He was a wonderful man who refused to become depressed about his cancer, jokingly accusing the nurses of "sexual harassment" when they'd rub his shoulder or hug him. As far as resisting accidental death, he was the result of at least 4 miracles, 5 if you include his recovery from cancer. Swallowed a toothpick, got shot with a wooden bullet(in WWII, they thought the splinters would cause him to die suddenly, that was about 50 years ago), wrong dosage of blood pressure medicine(my dad gave him much-neede cpr under an overpass on the Autobahn), and lastly, I dragged him out of a carbon-monoxide filled house. That last one was a kicker, in the weeks before that I was praying to God to establish that I was, or wasn't a Christian; and tell me my purpose. I still don't know my purpose, but I quit contemplating suicide in the years since then. I was later told it was a level of carbon dioxide 3 or 4 times the lethal dose.
Love your God with all your heart, mind, soul, and strength. Love your neighbor(everyone else on the planet, essentially) as yourself. These two rules, and any views that are thought of as totally respecting these rules, are of paramount importance. Remember this, and things will ultimately work out, though not necessarily in terms of your cancer.
"All things work for the good of the Creator and his loyal subjects."
There are many possibilities for what will happen to you, including the possibility that an XPC member(this forum) will own the computer that discovers a molecule that saves your life.
God Bless You and good luck.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks again for all of the wonderful support. Sorry for not replying sooner, but it has been a rough week of pain, fevers and emotions.
We have also been waiting for a very important test to return that indicates if chemo will be an effective treatment. If it was negative, our only option of treatment would be a bone marrow transplant. Not good... So anyway we just got the test back, and Thelma's bone marrow is NORMAL! :)
This now gives her a 50/50 chance of beating this! These odds are much better. Here White Blood count is now up to .5. It has increased by .1 each day for the last three days! Normal is 4.5-11. There are too many factors to list. I have become very educated on Leukemia and cancer the past 2 weeks.
I don't want to list the book of complications that could happen, so I will just say things are happening as they should. Thelma might be able to go home this weekend, and have a 2 week break before we do the entire process again (this time half as strong). And then repeat that process once a month for 6 months. This means the kids will have Mom home for the hollidays! :) And I will get to sleep in the same bed as my wife, on Christmas eve (and my Birthday coming up).
Yeh! as I am typing they finally took the IV machine out of the room! For the first time she has no tubes in her!!!!
Well, that is it for now. I never would of guessed I would be so happy to hear those 50/50 odds, but I now know she will make it.
I will try to keep you all informed, but I have a ton to do at work, the shopping, wrapping, and caring for my best friend. I'll try to get updates soon. It will be alot easier from my home computer and broadband :).
Best Wishes to all.
Robert and Thelma.

Excellent news, PK. I am happy and hopeful for you all. Merry Christmas!
Merry Christmas Everyone!!!
Thelma has been home for three days now, and as of Dec. 21st, all of the counts are in the "Normal" range, excluding WBC, Platlets, and Neutrophils. These three have been rising as well, and should be good by now. It is so wonderful to have her home for the holidays. She has never looked better. :D She even worked out yesterday with our home gym. We go in for another bone marrow bio, on Wed the 29th to see if there has been a remission, then, if so we begin long term chemo. For now we are just grateful to be together for the holidays.
Thanks again for all the support. I will keep you all posted.
Merry Christmas!

Now wait a second... Don't all husbands already do these things?
Being the neat freak that I am, I have been doing these things for years now, and the last time I asked my wife, she said .......well......suuuure,....aaaaaaall husbands do these these things. I think that maybe I've been had! :P

The kids got alot of presents, and Thelma got a card that said she was the best present I could of ever asked for.
She would of been upset to be showered with gifts, and not of been able to get me anything.
Being together was litterally the best Christmas I have had to date. :D
I hope you all are having a wonderful Christmas day!
