ok guys i just removed my cd wr drive and put in a cd wr dvd combo drive and now the new drive and my other cd rom drive are both not showing up when windows has booted do i need to change something in BIOS or what?
AMD Duron 900mhz
320MB ram
gf 2 440MX
40gig hdd
windows xp pro
didnt set jumper for the drive and yes there is another cd rom drive on the same ide cable, ive gone to system information and it shows no cd romd drives are connection to the computer

first off, only connect the dvd...btw, make sure you are using a 80ribbon ide cable...the standard 40 ribbon cdr cable won't cut it.
does the bios detect the drive? if so, boot to the os and uninstall all cdr/dvd drives from device manager. then reboot and let the OS redetect everything.
btw, what burner software are you using? see if the drive isc orrectly detected by the software.

sorry to be a newbie but how do i find out in BIOS if its detected the drives

one way is to watch the boot screen. most computers will list the devices detected as the system runs thru the power on checks.
it should show the hard disks first (because they are on ide channel 0) followed by channel 1 which in your case would be the dvd drive.
if you watch the boot screens, they is also a hotkey (such as Del or one of the Function keys) which will allow you to enter the bios menu. from there, you can navagate to the IDE devices and you can check there as well..

i fixed it, i didnt relize my cd wr (which i removed to put the dvd drive in) had jumper setting set to master :P
