haven't been able to crunch lately as my mother law took up residence in my computer room, so it was turned off, but the witch left today thank god :)
so on to the not too honest idea, I was reading through the threads and thought, hmm, a bunch of computers that are doing not much of anything, my local college, 100's of comps that are turned on all day long. I think you could install Think and I doubt anyone would catch it. if there was a dumby name to attach it too, even if they caught it no biggie, might be fun to try it on one or two?
(I warned you it wasn't honest, could it work though?)
P.S.S. I doubt I do it, I really want to know if it would be possible, so don't crap this thread telling me how terrible an idea it is, I just wanna know how you could do it)

Or, you can ask the Dean to donate the school's idle computer time to FaD :) (just use the 2091 team # ;) )

Sure it's possible...but you also run the risk of getting caught and possibly booted out of school. Actually getting booted out of school would be getting off easy...
I don't recall the guys name...but there was a sysadmin at a university that got busted for doing the same thing...he didn't get permission and they took him to court with HUGE fines and jail time. I'm sure some of the older crunchers know who I'm referring to...if you can provide a link that'd be great, I can't think of the guys name off the top of my head. It was back in the days when we were at SysOpt.com crunching under RC5....

Actually...do what I did. Write up a letter to the dean (or whoever you would need to get permission from) and see what they say! If you need suggestions or a template for a letter, feel free to use mine!
You can find it here... (http://www.xtremepccentral.com/forums/showthread.php?s=&threadid=11103)
Let us know how it turns out! :D

Yup, don't make any stealth installs. I forgot what the actual name is, but it's essentially stealing the company's/school's/organization's resources.
It's best to write a letter, like Gouki suggested. I've been reading around other forums, and people actually have succesfully been able to borg their high schools and colleges by writing letters.
One advice they gave was go straight to the top. Don't go to the IT guy. If the top guy gives the okay, he/she has no boss to say no.

Definitely do NOT go to the IT guy (being one myself). They will give you a list of 100 reasons why it shouldn't be done. I agree, you have to go to the top on something like that...

The issue with the sysadmin - was that he did have a verbal OK - from his supervisor.
However - when the grand pobah - was made aware the IT guy said - don;t look at me! - Im just a little guy.
So they fried the Sys - for not having it in writiing.

Just when you thought maybe you had thought of it first  I might look into finding out who is on the top and see about sending off such a letter. Although I still think downloading without them knowing would be more fun ;) until you get to the part where they level fines and what not at you :P

So if I were to do this in High School, who would I contact? The Principal or the SuperIntendant?

Thanks Mntsnow I plan on printing out Gouki's (with your permission) letter and leave it into the lab teacher's mailbox.
If I get a thumbs up on that, I might be able to get the other lab and the library, but I'm not putting my hopes up my school is so arrogant and ignorant
Hell ya go for it...that's why I gave ya the linky! :D

Thanks Gouki, tomorrow's not a good day to present it to the lab teacher. Teachers are fighting for a contract and paitence will have to win this round.

If you did go ahead with it and did get caught and did get sent to prison then, looking on the bright side, the prison service must have LOADS of PCs :D

and if that isn't ironic, i don't know what is.
when the prisons have more PC's that the local schools, something is sure out of whack!
well if sao does land in jail...i'm pretty sure he'll be too busy making sure not to drop the soap then about installing fad in the prison library. :D
