This drive was seconds behind the leader in writing to CD-R on the fly.

WHAT'S HOT: This drive took only 3 minutes and 18 seconds to write 650MB to CD-R on the fly, making it the second-fastest drive to complete that test. (TDK's VeloCD 40/12/48 was the fastest, but only by a few seconds.) These Teac and TDK drives tied for fastest in writing 650MB to CD-R from an image.

WHAT'S NOT: Teac offers a mere 9 hours of weekday tech support--a bit on the stingy side--and calls are not toll-free.

WHAT ELSE: This drive is bundled with Arcsoft PhotoImpression photo editing software and MusicMatch Jukebox software to play, encode, and manage your digital music.

UPSHOT: The Teac 40x12x48 CD-RW is fast, but its accompanying support hours are short.

Buying Information: 40X/12X/48X, IDE, internal, 8MB buffer, Roxio EasyCD Creator 5.2 and DirectCD 5.2, one-year warranty, 9-hour weekday support (calls are not toll-free).
