i bought this board in hope of someday making a athlon mp server

i decided to test the board with:

antec 400W psu
(1)athlon thunderbird 1GHz
(1)Micron PC2100 ECC 512 MB stick.
matrox millenia G400
on a cardboard box

it starts up, or so it seems, the fans spin, the LED in the PCI slots is lit up. i just dont get any video output. what the board does do is give one normal beep, then two short beeps (which means no video present) then it goes into to the self destruct beep mode "high pitch beeps" these mean cpu overheat. i pulled the ram off to see if it beeps different, it did with the long beeps meaning "no ram"

i tried my geforce 2, still the same first beep code. i tried my PCI trident card in all three 32bit PCI slots and still nothing.

i did try clearing the cmos with removing the battery for a good long hour (no jumper for some odd reason)

any thoughts?
:confused

First off, have you gone to Asus website to check and see what type of amp ratings you need on the various rails? According to what they say, you might have problems getting the thing to boot properly if your supply doesn't provide enough power.Second, are you sure that cpu is supported? Again check the specs. That would be my starting points in troubleshooting.

on the site and in the book the rails need to be the +5/+3.3v need to be at least 180w which the power supply shows 240W. the 12v rail needs to be 15A which mine is 18A and bla...

in the manual the single thunderbird is listed as supported (dont know which one though!!mine the 133 model the manual might mean the 100 one)

the psu though might be the problem and a 500 might be in the money throwing away scheme this week.

Also Carl, double check all of your jumpers!! Make sure you have them set for the right fsb.My money is at least partially,on the psu, after building my first duallie, not long ago.I ended up shelling out 135.00 for a psu that I knew would be able to handle everything with no problems.

yeah i did check all the jumpers and set it to jumper free mode.....

im going to set it to jumper mode to test. il try 100fsb as well tomorrow night if i can stay up.

funny though how my pentium 3 dually worked with a 300w PSU with no issues
