Set him up with a good firewall, introduce him to firefox, and tell him to stay away from ...ahem, those sites. :ROF:
Roswell,
Knot's page isn't just full of great art, it's functional too.
I got introduced to TechIMO, and then XPC through that crowd, because of Knothead's site. I Googled "wooden PC cases" a few years back, while looking for some design ideas for a project (that I have still yet to start).
I stumbled upon the most beautiful piece of woodworking-and-electronics I have ever laid my eyes on, The Alexis.
After emailing him, he told me about TIMO, and said I should stop by... :D

OK from the "other" thread (in case you havnt followed along) here is the update for Knotboy:
He wanted to go MSN I talked him into a local smallguy ive hooked folks up with for dial-up, $99 a year (he's been payin Earthlink double+) so he will soon be catchin and RIDING the SoCal surfside wave at http://surfside.net/ lets hope it works out better, the friends ive got on Surfside have been happy and troublefree for dare me say---years?
I have his computer, gonna strip and install everything once again, add the neccessary preventatives and hope for the best---
Wish us luck!!!
Edit---> Hey Heavy?
Ive had Alexis in my arms a few times now---and yes indeed---she is SWEET!

Yessir, Alexis sure is a work of art. :)
Can Knot get DSL where he is?
I had cable for 3 years before moving out here to the farm, and cable isn't available here, so I had to go DSL.
I have to say my DSL connection is far more reliable than the cable ever was as far as up time, and with the recent speed boost, it's also faster.
Unless of course he has no problem with a dial-up connection.
I think I would be suicidal if I didn't have broadband. :D

Just a note: OuT warned against getting SBC-Yahoo DSL

DSL might be a similar issue for him "living" in his shop, unless someone knows DSL providers that will provide home DSL services to a business address.
At this stage, he is probably better off sticking with a cheap dial-up service like TKOP has got him until he decides to get more permanent non-shop digs somewhere (if he does). ;)
Hope Knot doesn't mind us dictating his life like this for him. :o
Cheers

HEY! I finally got a "Reply" screen! :D
I've been trying to reply to a number of things around here for a coupl'a hours now...
The "Is It Art?" thread is almost SCREAMING at me, I keep trying to reply....grrrrrrrr....
The other night I typed a long reply to Roswell about learning to draw, only to see it all vanish to a pop-up proclaiming me as "THE BIG WINNER!!"
Man, I sure hope that our latest fix is gonna work....
If I don't make much sense, please understand that your faithful knothead has been finally driven mad.
If this works, please send Kudos to da'King....

HAVE YOU SEEN THESE SAWS? (http://www.sawstop.com/home.htm)
i heard about them on the radio this afternoon, and you have got to watch the video!! they use a hot dog instead of a finger  and it's the neatest thing i ever saw!

Yes, OuTpaTienT did a post on 'em a month or so ago at TIMO...:)
My feeling is, I wouldn't spend the money, as keeping fingers away from the blade is a kind of priority with me! :D
But seriously, the biggest headache with a tablesaw (literally) is the phenomenon of kickback; this is when the blade "grabs" the workpiece and hurls it back at you (at about 100mph! )
You're cutting away, when suddenly there's a LOUD noise, and by the time you realize something is terribly wrong, it's over, and you're looking at your shaking hands!
Kids, don't try this at home...;)
