Strange Hdd mystery

Strange problem this afternoon. I have an Dell Latitude XPi P-133 40mb ram. note book. I booted up and she only would go to the point of the memory count/check and freeze, tho she never did the check/count. well the battery was on 29% so I thought that might be the prob. I plugged her in and tryed again, same thing, I tryed a couple more times and decided maybe somehow the Hdd died, which is strange as I had her online via docking station last night on the lan online via dsl. Now the Hdd in the note book is an OEM IBM 1.44 gig. I have serval of these all ready to go, with different apps on each one, depending on what I'm using the note book for that day. I put another hdd in and she booted right up.. strange, I reinstalled the first hdd and dam, it still wouldn't boot. hmmm so I figured what did I have to lose by hitting it against something to see maybe it was somehow stuck, took it out and raped it with my knuckles, not real hard tho. reinstalled it and the s.o.b boooted right up ????? so I wonder what caused it not to work befor? I din't lose any data and it seems to be fine, running quiet as always too. beats me what happen to it.

Seems very odd that after some physical abuse she booted up again. :confused:

Maybe the head was stuck, or one of the moving parts was stuck.

In any case, I wouldn't heavily rely on this drive after what I've heard from you.

My only advice: backup everything and replace the HD...

I work with a guy who had a Compaq laptop that would freeze up. He'd just reach in his tool bag and pull out a screwdriver and wrap on the side of of the case next to the hard drive real hard with the plastic handle. Worked every time. :D

He said he wasn't too concerned about it cause he was due to trade soon.

almost forgot about this thread, I solved the Hdd's problem. I took her down cellar, tied her up against my back drop, ( she was free swinging in the air) and put a .50 cal sabot from 50 feet with my BP rifle though it. sort of blew it apart. hehehehehe.
