DSL Intermittent

Ok here goes. My DSL works great when it does work. I know I have a difinate problem inside my computer. I had Verizon tech come out to the house and put all new phone lines in and then had them speed checked. All good. Next I replaced the DSL modem as well as the phone line going to the new jack the Verizon installed. Still no joy. After that I replaced my Ethernet card. Still no joy. The Verizon tech had a lap top with him so he plugged that into the modem and it ran great. Plugged it back into my computer after that and still did not work. Even reformatted the hard drive in total deparation. Could this be a hardware issue? Like I said it does work and other times not. But it seems to be getting worse. I am running a Athalon AMD 1800 xp CPU, 512 DDR Ram, ATI 9200 video card, Sound Blaster Audigy sound card, FOr the life of me I can not figure out whats going on here. Thank you for any suggestions.

What OS? Do you have Firewall software running? What are your settings for your connection? Those are some other questions some of the others will probably ask.

Have you checked to see if there are updated or newer drivers for your NIC than you are currently using? I never use drivers out of the box. Always check the website.

You could also run the phon cord directly from your modem to your phone box outside bypassing the inside wiring. When I had DSL, I did this and gained 15% in speed.
