In Jason Parker 's last column, he gave you three of his favorite adware and spyware detectors. I hope he got the point across that you should run one or more of these programs to ensure that you get all spyware and adware off your system. But even if you're sticking to a strict regimen and running 10 programs a day to detect spyware, your computer is still not completely safe without a good firewall program.

At work, he don't have to worry because ZDNet has their network locked up tighter than Fort Knox, but at home most people can't count on that kind of security. That's where software-based firewalls come in. Read more about what he had to say and suggest (http://reviews-zdnet.com.com/AnchorDesk/4520-7296_16-5513182.html)

I used to use ZoneAlarm, but it proved more of a hassle than the protection it gave. But, that was 4 years ago.

They didn't say anything about the Ziff-Davis network being compromised recently. Good thing their is no gold in their Fort Knox ;)

Buy a 29.00 cheepass Belkin router and be done with it, even if you only have 1 box connected to the net. No software, no upgrades - very little worry. Been using one for near 3 years, when they cost 69.00. I get E-mail viri daily, but no other attacks.
