HalfLife and Win2000 Issue

A friend just upgraded to Win2000Pro. He is getting the error linked below. He did as instructed and completely uninstalled the game (and removed all references to it), updated and then reinstalled. It didnt work- any other Ideas?

I thought about doing that- but I am not sure exactly what part of the process got it going... LOL. Heres what I did when I went over (by the way, he ran the update from WinME to Win2000- which I always think it better to do a new install): I deinstalled the service pack, the game and edited out everything I could find in c: and the reg concerning both. Before I did anything else at that pt, I checked DeviceManager and his sound and one of his NIC's were not installed correctly. I found and loaded drivers for both. I reinstalled SP2 and rebooted. I reinstalled the game and launched it- it worked. I applied the 1.1.1.0 game patch (most recent) and rebooted. It worked. He had Norton FireWall running so I told him how to configure that. All worked. I really think when he "deinstalled" the game after applying the SP2 he didnt delete ALL the game. I asked him (prior to my coming over) if he cleared out all references to the game before reinstalling it and he said he had- but dont think he really knew what I meant. So, I think I just properly deinstalled and reinstalled all in the right order with the right procedure... So- nothing creative or miraculous... LOL- just by the book.
