I use Executives Software's Diskeeper for all my systems at home and work. It's got some great features that other defraggers don't have...

Sal, thanks for the link. I'll have to check it out.

Jig-Miester, if you had as much junk loaded on your system as I do. it would take you days to reinstall it!! I used to do that. but, time is a factor in this. and as you all know if you don't do it almost every other day. 2k with get in a real mess and it will bring the o/s to a real halt !!

theres chkdsk, ms defrag, norton speed disk, and diskeeper as well as diskeeper lite. I've used them all and still do for different operating systems.

My favorite is probably speed disk - that and anti-virus are the only two parts of the norton utilities package I'll allow to run on my systems mostly.

Diskeeper is a really good product - but to flaming expensive. Speed disk does most of the same things, but at a fair price. Also - speed disk works for NTFS -

bottom line - I prefer speed disk for NT platforms and usually just use defrag in normal or safe mode depending on how far gone a system is.

I use Diskeeper 6 also. Many more features than theone included with windowsXP.

Tried Speedisk also. Can't tell which is better.

I'm running Win98SE and just use the default MS defrag tool (and I use it fairly regularly). Am I doing wrong? :)

Edit: I don't care that it is slow and can't be automated. Doesn't bother me in the slightest (especially the lack of scheduling, I wouldn't do it if I could and it usually takes just a couple of minutes to defrag one of my drives as I do it regularly).

No, you're not necessarily doing it wrong. Some people have different preferences for Defrag. tools. Basically it's what ever works for you!:)
I use speed disk, as it's more clean & streamlined.
I still use Windows Defrag. whenever I'm working on a customer's computer, just because I know it'll be there.

Ok thanks :) I'll just continue using MS defrag then.
