NEWS.COM said on Friday that it is instituting a system on the Windows download page where users are asked to check whether their software is licensed or not.
That article is Here (http://news.com.com/Microsoft+Can+we+check+your+software+license/2100-1016_3-5371664.html)
The report has already generated a heap of controversy over at DSL Reports, but we do think it's nice of the Vole to squeak nicely. Read more at Inquirer (http://www.theinquirer.net//?article=18551)

That sounds great & all (well in some ways anyways), but for those who know they have pirated software, they can just wait every few months & order a Windows Updates CD in the mail & update their copy of windows that way & not have to go online to update it.
I have nothing to hide! Bring it on in!:D
I recieved my free SP2 CD, and have used it on several boxes so far!

same here..
It's not hard to get a valid copy of Win XP Pro. I bought my upgrade copies from HP for $30 each. I think many can find deals just as good and hte only reason to run unlicensed copies is laziness.

Why license it to begin with? I used to always register my new games for 'warranty' purposes or whatever and nothing ever came from that. Same with all software. Some say it pays for support but I have NEVER gotten support from any software maker that fixed the problem. I always have to solve my problems myself or ask you guys.
So why bother licensing or registering software?

Right...as long as your not a big gamer.
Umm.... ATI and NVIDIA have relased drivers to use OpenGL. ID has Quake3.. DoomLegacy runs on Linux.. Soldier of Fortune, Heretic 2, Tux Racer, UT2003 and 2004.... Umm soo the big games do work!
I know this because I use it! Common misconception BBA, but thats ok. Everyone learns.

He wasn't talking about the Big games, just a side note, you also forgot about Doom3, theres a mod to get it to run on just about any OS (Windows, Mac, Linux, etc), but I think BBA, was talking about Gamer's who play a lot of different games, mainly the not so "BIG" ones, like a lot of the RPG games & "Cheapy" games out there, most of the Main Stream Big Time ones will run on Linux now, but there are quite a few lesser known ones that don't, & there are quite a few of us who play these lesser known ones also.
As For Tux Racer, thats a native Linux game to begin with anyways, so that doesn't count.
You can run many Windows Based games on Linux if you use one of the Windows Emulator type programs, but in many cases performance is just too slow, unless you've got some good hardware to run it on.
