Anyone know if there is going to be a dual P4 mainboard available soon?

I doubt intel will allow anyone to make such a mobo. You see all is needed is to take a dual Xeon and repalce the sockets. But it's highly unlikely as intel gets nice margins out of the Xeons.

More Dual P4 Rumors
Posted by Hooz at 9:55AM EST

According to this thread at Forum de Luxx, the VIA P4X333 reference board has a jumper setting silk-screened on the board that would supposedly enable/disable dual CPU operation... With the P4 processor(s). To add a bit more to the mystery, Kyle over at the [H] had this to add:

A dual Pentium 4 board was seen last week in VIA's offices in Taiwan, so it is certainly something they are working on.
Interesting stuff for sure.

I hope it's true....

All you need is a dual xeon mb...the P4 cost almost the same as the xeon does, so why bother? It's the dual xeon motherboard that cost so much now...not the processor. Mostly, because a P4 and the Xeon are the same processor...down to the last transistor. The difference is the xeon has a circuit board mated to the cpu that enables hyperthreading. ( All P4's have hyperthreading built in but only the xeon has it enabled. )

Mmmm yummy... dual P4....
But... are P4 smp enabled??
If Intel does not allow the use of dual P4 I am sure that they will put some kind of protection (like a bridge or sthg like that) on the P4 to make sure they will not work in a dual CPU config...
You will be stuck with P4 Xeon... but $$$$$$

Nope...theyu will work out of the box...just like the P3 did ( but Intel claimed it did not at first ).

That's what my next build will be... A Dual P4...

Excellent... fingers crossed...
Can't wait to build to dual P4.

I would rather build a dual xeon...since the processors cost almost the same as the P4 does anyway

Almost the same price??? not really... Here in UK, the xeon cost 40 to 60% more than the P4 (same clock speed).

1.8GHz P4 ==> £105 (excl VAT)
1.8GHz Xeon ==> £164 (excl VAT)

2.4GHz P4 ==> £144 (excl VAT)
2.4GHz Xeon ==> £219 (excl VAT)

Yep, that was the way it was in asia too, Stan. The cost of P4 Xeons were double the price of P4's for the same clock speed...

And also the Xeon chipset is very expensive...

I don't know...a P4 2.0/512 is US $165, and the 2.0 Xeon is $212. Thats about $47 difference...well worth the difference to me, if only I could find a Xeon motherboard for under $300.

Nope, I did a search as a matter of fact for Dual Xeon mainboard for under $500 and nothing... Tyan seems to have this new board they will release soon which they say "Dual Xeon solution that's affordable", but I can see why it may be less expensive than most.. This thing only has 3 PCI slots. :rolleyes: This a sever board, not workstation... :(
