Morning y'all, and welcome to another earlyish update. It would have been earlier, but I've been waiting for the stats to update for the last 3 hours  stats.findadrug.org.uk is down atm btw.

So here we are then, another great days crunching, 1.4 million points uploaded :D

Nice passes by H_E, JOB and Ruby :D
Lots of great individual outputs too, great work team! :D

No more time to waffle, I need to sleep, got to be up early as we have a checkup first thing in the morning :)

Yeah, I know, I still need to do some formatting with the strays  :D

Congrats to the 'stonerz :D

there are 2 quick ways to check the membernumbers for FaD, You can check server.log which will print "starting server for "MemberNumber""

or right click the icon, go to setup, the membernumber will be on the top left of the window (title bar)

Also thanks for the stats Win2k, the strays is a very good idea.. :D

Hmmm, just seen i have a stray.:(
I checked all the systems in the house.
Found it's one I built and sold. Just used FaD to test it. Well will need to get with the guy and see if he wants to crunch and load him up..............;)

Looks like one more day, maybe two, truckie will once again be ahead of me.

Currently my main rig is still crunching the one job, at 4 days 9 hours, 323 hits, 57% done, CPU rating 171. I think I'll start up the T-bird & crunch a few Methodolgy jobs for now, just for the hell of it.:D

Strong day, team!

Congrats to the 'stoners and the passers.

I'm almost firing on all cylinders. Have only one machine turned off.

I'm thinking of not upgrading my main cruncher once my A64 board gets here. Pondering getting one of those CMStackers and a hard drive and just putting it in there and leaving my main machine alone. So that would be an addition, not an upgrade! w00t!

I still need to work on the power situation. gonna talk to one of my electrician friends about moving to a 200A breaker box ( from my current 100A ). I need to be able to run all the machines w/o blacking out parts of the house.

See ya in about 6 Months or so, LOL!!!:D

edit: Phew that took a bit of messing around to get it working?

It took me forever to get FaD up & running on my T-bird again, I uninstalled it a week or two ago, but left fragments on there somehow, installed 1.24g but kept messing up so I uninstalled & installed 1.23c same thing, so after awhile I finally went into regedit (this is on WinME), & deleted every instance of THINK, & Find-a-Drug, rebooted for teh upteenth time, & installed 1.23c one more time, & BAM, got it, configured it, & imported about 15-20 jobs from the main rig, for the time being, for some reason I couldn't download any methodology jobs on the main rig, only had 3 different query's selectable, 2 Cancer & 1 HIV, so I DL the one Cancer query that my main rig buzzed thru, DL about 15 jobs, plus I found about 5-10 more jobs in a batch taht i exported a while ago (same query), while tyring to get my lappy working (found them on one of my USB drives, was looking for something to DL & upload jobs from one to the other on, so i got those to crunch too.

scrap that setup it cost to much to run jobs on low end systems
that one job will end up costing you 15 to 30 bucks for the Electric

nnoooooooo....i can't let you beat me to the CMStacker. ;)

awesome case but i'm probably not going to pick it up anytime soon. 'cause if i do, i know i'll probably wind up plunking down an obscene amount of money for a suitablly powerful system to do that case the proper justice. :D ....something with dual cpus....something with AMD stamped on it. :bunny:

Dude, I wouldn't even have thought about it if it were not for you! Had read the reviews and all, but had pretty much forgotten about it. Then you went ranting about it, then I went to their website and spent much tme looking at it and reading about it. Now I can't seem to get it out of my mind! On sale now at Directron ( not much of a sale, but... )!

we need to quit talking to each other, we seem to keep giving each other subversive thoughts! :)

I was looking at this today, http://www.chieftec.com/products/Workcolor/BA-01.htm , Not that i'd have the cash for one, but still it'd be nice, until I looked up the Coolermaster Stacker, NOw I want one!!!:D

actually had seen a link for it the other day somewhere, but didn't bother, now I'm glad I did, that just may be my next case!:D

I can Just imagine all the goodie's I could stuff into a case like that!:)

I'm lucky I'm a college student; it's easy to resist the temptation to buy cool gear when you don't have the money to buy them with!

That Coolermaster case is perfect for a water-cooled setup I've been wanting to get. Plenty of room for the radiator (if it's not an external one) and space for a second power supply to power the watercooling kit.

Wonders if there are any cases out there that support 2 systems (internally)?

PresterJohn

the 'amazing' thing about that case is that it's only around $160-$170 sticker price. which is incredible considering that server type cases like this usually cost 50-100% more, easily. and when you factor in the fact that coolermasters were never the cheapest brand in begin with, the low price is even more unusual.

plus, it's got some innovative features - both E/ATX and BTX compliant, aux mobo fan, etc. that really makes it stand out from the crowd. it's probably the perfect case for water-cooling or those that like to add a bunch of fanbus controls.

darn it...now you guys are making me think about getting one anyway. :p

if you mean "2 systems" as in 2 motherboards, no...i've never seen one and i doubt it exists.

putting two mobos in one case doesn't make much sense from a fault-tolerant POV or from a space-saving POV.

Many years ago I did see a server case some wholesaler or whatever was selling in a PC mag it had the ability to mount 2 mobo's preferablly Identical systems, & had 2 PSU, basically one system was the main one & the other was a redundant backup system if teh other failed for some reason. But first thing I thought of is oooh, I could get two identical systems, & connect them via a crossover, for gaming, this was back probably 4 years ago at least. Haven't seen anything like that around since. I had been looking for one a year ago, but never came up with anything. Had plans of putting my bro's rig & my T-bird rig in one case.

my buddy has one........

its like two towers welded together. it has one fat case cover that slides off. i have no idea who made it. it might be AT.

edit: it has two power switches, or put this way two of everything. its a "couple" cluster.

i guess i'll need to clarify...

when i said "i doubt it exists" i meant i doubt that there are any current vendors producing such a case now. there were 'failed' attempts previously...just never really caught on in the marketplace for the frementioned reasons. :)

Well, I was thinking about getting one. But have read more on it. It seems the ( opt. ) cross flow fan, that I was intrigued by, doesn't really do much, in terms of lowering overall case temps. But that, alone, wouldnn't be enough to stop me. Still a great case.
Just realized, remembered really, that I don't want more systems. This is reinforced by my power bill that I just paid. Never seen anything like it! It was $100 over what were already way high monthly bills.

I'm gonna continue along with my original plan, upgrade my main machine and move parts along down the chain, upgrading a machine with the displaced parts/systems.

So, you're safe, PJ, I'm not gonna get it ahead of you.

I did just order a killer PSU, though. I want stout, and adjustable lines for this A64 system and its' new VC. I ordered a Fortron 530W unit ( thanks, C-C, I put it to good use! )

Question: I keep seeing the word 'stoner. Not that I'm offended, necessarily, but am I correct in assuming this is a reference to drug use? I won't quit the team, but I hope I'm wrong.

No, Jason. That is in reference to a person hitting a milestone. Such as 10 million points or 1 million mollies, etc.

just an abbreviation.

Please don't flame me for being an idiot.

>But have read more on it. It seems the ( opt. ) cross flow fan, that I was intrigued by, doesn't really do much, in terms of lowering overall case temps.

hmmm...perhaps this is because the case already has so much air circulation?

after all, all the unused drive bays have mesh in front....not the typical solid panels. coupled with the 2 120mm and the 80mm blowhole, not to mention the huge mesh on the side panel...it's pretty hard to see how air flow can get any better.

Wow, I thought there was a glass ceiling at 15! :D

I'd love to build a dual Opteron system:drool:
Can't... fight... urge... much... ... longer...

It's excessive and unnecessary for me to have, but the same can be said for the 12 computers we already have, so that doesn't work as a deterrent.:D

I'd love to have a dual Opteron system, too. 'nfact when I got sold my BP6 w dual 366's @ 551, I told myself I wouldn't get another dually til I could go dual Opteron. But jeez, the cost of such a machine.

Hehe, anybody have any links to dual Opteron boards?

edit - ahh, that is what the comment about a "ceiling" was about! Congrats on that, H_E!

So, has anybody talked with Brydon lately? Whats' up? He is no longer into computing? Or just FaD? Or?

IMO, the only dual opteron boards that i would consider are the tyans. ROCK solid stability and 100% compatibility.

the Tiger K8W (S2875) is a standard atx board and is their lower end board. the Thunder K8W (S2885) is their top of the line duallie w/8 ram slots, separate memory controllers.

building a dual opteron system is not as as expensive as you might think. the tiger k8w and a pair of 244's would probably be around $900 give or take.
