i just ordered the wd special edition 80gb hdd and the promise ultra133 tx2 controller card.
cdrw
dvd
ibm 40gb
wd 80gb
i was told by someone to use them all as master and to connect the cdrw+dvd to the controller card as the primary.
the hdd to the mobo.
how would u suggest i hook up my drives?
i want to put my movies and mp3 on the 40gb hdd.
i want to use the 80gb for transfering my movies from vhs to vcd.

I would put the 80GB and 40GB drives on the card because it should be faster.
What OS are you useing?
So I would set it up as follows:
40gig as pimary master on the card, if this is the drive with the OS
80GB as secondary master on card
CDRW on prim master on the board
DVD as secondary master on the board depending on which drive is faster.
This is similar to how I have one of my boxes set up.

i always leave out information.
the 40gb hdd will have win2k,winxp, and maybe mandrake 8,2.

It may be better to leave the 40gig on the on-board controller at least until after you install w2k and xp. I had problems installing W2K and NT4 when the drive was on the card but I was able to move the drive to the card after installing W2K. Maybe someone else had better luck than I did when I tried it, the instructions said i could.
I would definitely put the 80gig on the card if you were using it for converting vhs to vcd or svcd.
