Hello, new to this board. I recently got a laptop (first one for me, it's an old Toshiba 4010CDT that I got cheap). The entire thing was in great condition, minor scratches on the case only.

The only problem with it was that it was a bit dirty...and that was the start of my problem. I foolishy took the advice of (apparently) the wrong person on what to use to clean it. The cleaner had acetone in it, and now the top of my case is cloudy (that's what i get for not starting on the bottom of the case as a test).

This is really bugging me now (okay, yeah - so I'm anal when it comes to certain things).

What I want to know is if anyone knows if this can be fixed -- or alternatively...I've considered painting the top. I doubt I will paint the entire case, a combination of laziness and unwillingness to try to tear apart my laptop.

Any known methods on repairing this would be greatly appreciated. Also, any good (or a link to good) instructions on painting this type of surface would also be appreciated. My attempts to search google have not been all that fruitful in finding details on this.

Again, I am very anal about things...and want it to look as nice as possible. I may be willing to use spray paint as a base coat...but am interested in hand painting a design onto it, also why i need help -- i have no idea what types of paints, coatings, sandpapers, etc I should use.

Thnx.

Oh, also got an older Sony Clie SL10, and may consider painting that around the same time -- that I would likely do a full paint job on if any...

I found this online while trying to research what I could do to fix the random flaking of paint off my left click button on my laptop (A month old $2,500 sony vaio laptop, figures). You think you're anal? Lol this tiny dark dot among silver drives me up the wall. It looks like dirt I can't take off.
Anyway...
While I don't think this is a solution I'll take, maybe it'll help you. The guy did an awesome job but it doesn't look too easy. Check it out.

As for me, I think I'm gonna try a silver sharpie or some type of permanent silver marker. It'll probably end up looking worse, but... whatever.
