Hey anybody know of a site that is selling a dual P3 or Celeron board (Coppermine, tualatin, Socket 370), I was looking around at Computer Renaissance today & they have another Celeron 600 for $25, I figured if I can get a Dual 370 CPU board for pretty cheap I can take that other celly 600 out of that one board I got & put it in a dual CPU board with another & use that for FaD, just have to run Linux in it. I did a search on PriceGrabber, but teh cheapest I found was $80 for a Gigabyte board, & I want to spend a bit less than that, maybe 60-65 at the most.

Hey Shyguy, don't forget to check the steppings of any CPU's you wanna dual. The closer you can match 'em. the better the SMP will be.

Don't think the 600 Cellys will run as duals. 533 PPGA was the last. P3 is a different story...:)

I found on Pricgrabbers Storefronts section that is selling a P3 dually board for like $69, I was wondering about several things, how to tell whether it supports Coppermine or both Coppermine & tualitin, or what, its a Tyan board, http://www.tyan.com/products/html/thunderle.html, can't tell, but if is does support Tualitin, Newegg I believe is selling 1.13GHz CPU's for a little over $40 for those, & close to $100 for the standard 1GHz Coppermines, If you put in a Tualitin & it only supported a Coppermine would it work or would you have to "de-tune" it to work, also about the ECC memory this board uses, if you put non-ecc memory in a server board would it still work or do absolutely have to use ECC in it. Reason i'm asking is I may be getting rid of one or 2 or 3 systems in teh not so distant future & would like to have one (preferably a dually), to replace them with with out pay an arm & a leg, I figured if I can get a dually board cheap right now & a CPU, maybe 2, then I can worry about getting teh other parts later to put together (for DC projects & other server type stuff). Also does both CPU's need to be same speed or can there be a difference in speeds?

You wouldn't happen to have a link to it, I keep trying to search over there & can't make sense or head& tails of anything over there, they just aren't as organized to search through as pricegrabber, & other sites.

But as to using different speed CPU's does that work?

As to ECC Ram no biggie, I lookeed around some more & ifound some that wasn't too bad in price, that was my main concern & why I wanted to know if it is possible to use non-ecc ram in it.

"ECC "

it depends on the chipset.....the intel server works requires it, but with every Via based dual pentium 3 board you can use non buffed ram. (which is every board thats affordable new or used)

"speed and stepping matching"

the steppings need to be the same....and so does the speeds. i never tried, but even if the cpus are close (866 and 933) i dont think a board will make it past POST

"where to buy"

i only spent 45 on my ECS D6VAA......and its working pretty good for an Ebay buy....
recently though, i found a dual mp asus board will two mp 2200s at a local shop.

If you can find one, I'd suggest the MSI 694D Pro board, I have it myself.

It doesn't support tuallies tho, but it has a lotta pros, like:

1. do not need same steppings on the cpu's
2. the can even be different vcore cpu's, will work flawlessly.

It is a cheap board with nice performance, but don't try and overclock it, cause that is something it won't do that great.

I used cpu-z, and turns out 1 cpu is a coppermine and the other is a coppermine-T. One runs 1.7V and the other 1.75V and I never had a problem with them.
