Ok, here's the deal. I am looking for a way to edit an avi file. I have googled the deal, but have installed/uninstalled too many programs. I need something easy, lets me fast forward and rewind if need be, and quick. I don't mind having to pay for the software, i just want something that works.

Personal dislikes:
AVIedit
Personal AVI Editor
Fancy Movie Editor

EDIT: I guess I should add in that after I'm finished editing, I wish to convert AVI to VCD (so I watch my converted home movies on my DVD player)

How about windows movie maker? It lets you add titles and text overlays, splice scenes and etc...and it's free with Windows XP.

So far the windows movie maker is working out...
However, I will check into those (especially the first two) Mike.

Ulead Videowave gets my vote as well for the pricing and ease of use...

Well, so far the Windows Movie Maker has done the trick - I am, however, disappointed that the resolution wasn't as good as I hoped for (a mere 640x480). I had an error trying to do 1024x768. I'm definately going to look into the Ulead Videowave as I normally buy my graphics programs from Ulead. :D Thanks.

Now all I need to do is find a way to convert the (poor quality) .wmv file to VCD in order to watch them on the DVD player. I will probably go with a 9600/9700/9800 PRO AIW next time for home video conversion. It's a pain doing it this way. I got that Pinnacle (which was decent) software with the 9700 PRO.

Anyone know of any converters to convert .wmv to VCD? Also is there a video jpeg format? Or is the jpeg for still viewing only?
