I just bought a new PC, Intel P4 HT 3.0 Ghz, 512 MB ram. (S4)
After install of some apps. the PC now starts up much slower.
I bought the PC last week, and before installs, the PC started up faster than my old PC (40 seconds)
My old PC AMD 2200+, 512 MB Ram (M1), (actually needs to be re-installed), starts up much faster.

I have tested the start up time between the PC's and the critical time is when the PC is 'hanging' in black mode with the cursor blinking. (Level 4: S4 takes 70 seconds, M1 takes only 6 seconds to process) I guess that drivers are loading at that stage.
Any idea how to identify what happensand preferable how to solve it?

The process:

Windows start up
1. Push button

2. Intels P4 logo

3. Black screen, cursor blinking
in uppper left corner

4. Black screen with Windowslogo
and the 3 green dots running
from left to right in a bar (S4: 70 sec, M1: 6 sec)

5. Black screen again
(no cursur blinking)

6. Windows log on

7. Windows desktop blue screen apears

8. Windows desktop ready

Total start up time S4: 70 sec, M1: 50 sec)

Welcome to XPC, Sorens3!:)

(Your question would be better in the Applications and Operating Systems forum area, as this one is more for reference than troubleshooting.)

Have you looked at what applications are set to run on startup, and are you connecting via a network?

:)

Hi Bob
Thanks for your reply. I will post my problem in the AAOS area (thnx for advising).
Your questions: Yes I have looked at the apps. Do not look suspisious. Yes I am connected.

It must be initializing the network card before anything else and doing a DHCP. Thats the most logical reason.

Hi thronka
Thanks for your reply.
How do I initialise the network card and do DHCP?
How can this be the problem, since the PC started up ok 2 days ago?
