Morning y'all and welcome to another daily waffle/stats type thing :)

A great days crunching has resulted in over a million points in the kitty again, with some excellent numbers coming in from all over the place.

WTG Gouki - Those work 'puters of yours are coming along nicely which is great for FaD, great for XPC, and magic for your totals ;) - I didn't really like 13th anyway, too unlucky for my liking

Just got to try and keep 14th now, which could be tricky the way harder is shifting points atm  Need some more power...

Does any UK crunchers know of any good online sellers for pc bits that are cheap? I have been using Ebuyer for ages now, but I'm getting pissed of with their sloppy service lately. Shame really, as they seem the cheapest place for pc bits atm.

I put an order in nearly 2 weeks ago for a friend of mine, but the monitor he wanted was out of stock pending 10 days. My mate said he didn't mind waiting as that was the monitor he really wanted  I have looked at the order, the monitor is still not in, and now several other bits are out of stock pending 20 days  Wouldn't be too bad if they allocated the stuff to me, but they don't :(

For payment for building this pc of his, I added a 2.5 barton and asrock mobo on his list (with his approval), so the sooner I get the stuff, the sooner I can upgrade one of my older crunchers.

I have had a look at Novatech.co.uk and aria.co.uk, but thier prices are almost £60 more for the same stuff!

Aaaaaahhhhhhhrrrrrrrggggggggggg! Just have to wait for Ebuyer I suppose

Anyway, enough waffle, on with the important bit...

I've not been too happy with ebuyers service recently either! You can't get through on the phone within 30 mins... I don't think they pay much attention to the enotes either. Unfortunately I can't find anyone that rivals them for price or selection though - although I am starting to use Kelkoo to find the cheapest deals.

Yeah, knocked down my estimate from 88 days to 40 days... but I don't think that will be a sustained output of thiers...

I'll be adjusting mine to use a 10 day average, should absorb the major spikes, I could use an overall average, but I don't think it would accurately show any increase in actual output (we double ours and it would never truely show that....)

Keep up the great work guys

I've put the stats live, I'll have to watch how much bandwidth get's used / day, if it exceeds 100Mb/day I'll have to shut them off (otherwise my ISP will shut me off since I'm not really supposed to have a web server.... I'll have to see what commercial packages are available from my ISP....

100mb / day would be about 2200 loads, so if the stats are the same time as the posted stats on the fad server please don't refresh the page :p:)

link is Here (Http://woo.gotdns.com:8080/)

It should be updating every 6 hours (at most 1 hour after a stats update)

I'll see how the bandwidth goes...

Also if you click on your name it will show you your upload history (link to FaD site for your name)

The Vbulletin output has the links too, but I can't get the same look as Win2k's for that yet, he has a lot of lines, I have to worry about spacing  :)

Any other comments on how they could be improved?

Linky back to here (XPC DC forum) would be nice, WoO. A mouseover on the XPC logo would be fine :)

Looking good though, except I don't like black backgrounds. But that's just me, isn't it? :p

Based on the responses from TSC about just doing it to make number one... what happens then? After they take number one, they'll probably try to corner another DC topic. We'll take number one again.

But then that would mean FaD won't have as many computers crunching for it, so even if we retake #1 the cause suffers a great deal of loss. :(

i don't see why some of us are saying that when tsc reaches #1 they are going to fall-off and concentrate elsewhere. i just don't see that happening...they will continue to contribute to the project.

lotta good uploads yesterday...we're not quite averaging 1M over an entire 7 day period but we are getting close. let's keep up the hard work.

I agree maybe not in full force but they will still contribute to the cause.

Sure TSC may take #1. but if its all that important to be in the number one spot we could always ally with one of the other top teams like [H]ardOCP or some of the others & give TSC a real fight, in a competitive way of course. It'd be a win/win situation for us & whoever we allied with as both teams would be one & be in the #1 spot? Just a thought?

I know TSC are wooping our @rses at the moment, but then there are 4 times more of them than us...

I think it is pretty amazing how much we output on a daily basis considering how few there are of us (compared to other teams) :)

Keep up the great work folks :D

I don't really see the point in that - What makes this team great is XPC.

TSC will take number one, but lets be honest, it isn't really that much of an acheivment - just look how many members they have crunching.

If they had the same number of members we do, and they take number 1, I would be the first to congratulate them. As it stands though, it's not a fair fight, nor is it representative of how great they are when they take number 1.

It's like putting a farrari up against a mini.

IMO of course.

The only winner will be FaD.

I'm not saying anything bad about our team or anything, but even if we did ally with someone we would still be team XPC, just that out stats would be combined with another's, that's all. It wouldn't change how great out team is at all. I was just making a suggestion, if we wnat to keep the #1 spot from TSC, but either way if we stay the way we are, or allied with someone, the only real winner would be FaD no matter what, so it wouldn't really make much of a difference. Oh well forget I mentioned it, it was just a suggestion or a thought.

Yeah, sorry Shyguy, I didn't mean to piss on your fireworks :)

I personally think it is bad eggs to recruite big hitters just to keep number one.

Not sure on others thoughts though...

I personally agree with C-C.

I take the TSC in their name to be the Tuberous Sclerosis Complex DC project fighting childhood diseases.

Forgive me if I'm wrong, but if that's the case, they have jumped projects before.

i kinda know what you're trying to say w2k...but i'm not sure that i can completely agree with it.

yes, tsc may have many more active members than us...but that still doesn't take anything away from what they would have accomplished. overtaking XPC in the standings requires some major output...anybody that can do that, deserves to be congratulated. c'mon let's be honest here....if "we put the shoe on the other foot", when we overtook Thinktank for #1, our team was about double their size. does that mean we didn't deserve it either or that something wasn't 'fair'?

moreover, tsc was created roughly around the same time xpc was...but keep in mind that unlike many of our members (who were crunching much earlier under the TIMO banner), all the tsc members were new to the project when they signed on. that includes Joker right on down the line.

so if they take #1 from us...we should give them credit where credit is due. i support our team all the way, but i think it is proper to acknowledge what they have done. it's not their 'fault' that they have more members than us...if we could recruit another 100 people to the team we'd certainly do it.

considering the amount of effort they are putting in to taking #1...i just don't see them leaving the project. there have been teams before that participate in more than 1 DC...

Sounds a bit like sour grapes that...very very sour. My sincerest congratulations to TSC on being able to build a Ferrari and race it, while we could "only" put up a Mini. We're gonna be beaten fair and square, and let's not wallow in weak excuses. Some Mini though...

Edit: Agreed PJ. You put it much better than I did ! What worries me though is that if you and I agree, there must be something wrong somewhere !!! :D

HeH,HEH... TT, ya ever seen a mini with a hemi in the back seat?
The fat lady ain't started singing yet!
To worry and fret and speculate about it seems (at least to me) pointless. So if they do or if they don't, either way we do the best we can and be proud of the fact that we are making a difference to help find cures for the sickness in this world.
I for one am proud of the fact I helped find molicules that will help fight cancer. That is what I'm after. I want my systems to make a difference and if somebody out does me,I'm gonna cheer fer them no matter who they are.
TSC is doing a good job of catching us And I give them a lot of kudo's for it. Again,So what if they beat us or not,we will do the best we can.
1 system or 1,000 systems we ALL count!!! So if ya want ta make a diffrence,GET OUT AND RECRUIT !!

Ok, I've now corrected "Time until Pass" it's now taken over an approx 10 day time difference, (never 11, unlikely beliw 10 except for now sinc eI only have 9.75 days of stats logged)

Also added a Link to XPC (click the logo) but I'll have to softcode this so it would be read from a config file..

But other then that I can't see any problems, still not quite as much info as Win2k's tho... I'll have to fix that up :)

I also have to add error control, tho a program shouldn't need it, the stats page isn't consistant and I've been getting chunked file read errors from the stats site today

TSC will take number one, but lets be honest, it isn't really that much of an acheivment - just look how many members they have crunching.

Very well put Win2k, and I agree, what makes this team number one is not where we are in the ranks, that's a novelty, What makes us #1 is interaction... we talk an yammer away, we work together for a goal, and that's what being a team is about, and in that respect we will always be Number 1 in my books :)

I'm with PU on that one!

XPC will always be the number one Team, whatever our position in the stats!

But get out there and recruit anyways!

Maybe I was misunderstood. I don't know whether TSC will switch to another project if they take #1, it's just a speculation I heard. What I was saying was, if that's true, then we must work to stay at #1 to keep them from leaving. They are contributing a lot to research and it would be a shame if they left for another project.

That said, I must remind everyone that that's if they do decide to go to another project when they reach #1.

As he pointed out, TSC are almost all over-clockers, and unfortunately some of them do not have the same underlying motives for crunching as we do. So a drop off of some of the "some" is to be expected when they reach their goal their goal, i.e. catching us. And since FaD has benefited hugely from their participation so far, it would be churlish to criticise them for not having the same motives and goals as you or I !

My take on this is that if XPC get bumped down to No 2 then it will give us extra incentives to recruit. :D That's a good thing, naturally.

Also, if TSC!Russia gets to No 1 it's in the best interests of FAD to try to get them to stay there. That'll mean we need to keep pushing them harder and harder (not sharder, just harder. :p ). If we can make them think they will be easily beaten by us if they don't maintain their output, they may stay in the race. ;)

My thoughts, anyhow. :)

Cheers

I sort of agree with PU here - sitting here and talking about it isn't exactly the best thing to do - we ought to recruit and put up a good fight.

I also agree with Win2k when taking into consideration their amount of members/size.

Wow, my T-bird system finally has made some progress today, its been stuck at about 25-26% for the last 2 or 3 days & in the last 12 hours has finally jumped to 39%, for a bit there I was getting worried, thought maybe I night have to end job or something & go on to next, thought maybe there was something wrong with FaD, well I guess not.

Number Two (2), TSC IS a great team and earn all the credit they deserve. :D
Number Three (3), I have not given up trying to find new members or ways to increase our output. :D
Number Four (4), No matter what place overall Team XPC is in . . . . We're still NUMBER 1!! :D

Now quit yer' whinin' and get ta' work to find some more help around here!!! :p

Win2Kuser

...so you take up space telling us about a thread you're gonna create to save space in here...

:p :bunny:

I think my comments may have been taken the wrong way - reading back through it, I can see why.

TSC have done an amazing job to get as far as they have in such a short time. Alls I'm trying to say is that due to the shear number of crunchers they have, there is no way we can hold them off (not at the moment anyway), so a take over is imminent.

But it would have been more of an acheivment to them if they had got this close with the same sort of number of members that we have.

As for the will they continue or won't they routine. Backbird said in a thread a while back that some of their members are in it just to take number one from us. A sad but true thing. I think that most of their members are in it for the cause (I hope) and will continue cranking out the points and cures well into the future. I would expect a few of their members to drop out or relax crunching once they take number one (if they do), and will probably go on to show off their overclocked machines on another project somewhere.

But anyway, as harder says, they aint number one yet...

And besides whoever is number one, XPC will ALWAYS be the number one team for fun, frollicks, banter, stats and team spirit.
