Recently I discovered that the Quick Launch toolbar can be pulled out to become a seperate bar so I put it on thr left side of the desktop and put most of the desktop icons in the bar (it auto-hides)

Is putting the icons in the Quick Launch bar or on the desktop better (which is faster, does it slow down startup)

Is it good to have many icons on the desktop? (slows down desktop load?)

Having too many icons on the desktop uses up more memory.

I personally only have my Recycle Bin on the desktop (I Run WinXP Pro) everything else that I want to use is in my Quick Launch area. Another plus is that it's just plain neater, and you get to enjoy that desktop wallpaper if you have one. :)

If you don't have a wallpaper or if you're thinking about changing it, check this page out (http://www.xtremepccentral.com/Desktop/Desktop.html) for some cool wallpapers! :D

Let me get this straight, you guys are saying that if you put an icon in the quick launch that it takes up less system resources than if you put it on your desktop? :)

This is what I do to conserve space on the taskbar and have all my commonly-used programs easily-accesible:

*deleted due to wrongness*

Edit - Just tried enabling Quick Launch on my Win98SE machine and amount of resources on bootup was the same as with it disabled (I've no idea about memory usage). I can't figure out how to put it on the left side of the taskbar though (it's next to my Systray), anyone know how to move it?

Edit - noticed no difference in bootup times either.

My taskbar is 3 levels high and set to autohide. The top level is QuickLaunch, the second is tasks, and the bottom is Links. I like the neatness of not having all those icons on the desktop.

I raised the taskbar and activated the QuickLaunch extension for this screen shot, I just couldn't see covering this wallpaper up with icons:D

In my case, I just have all the applications arranged into new custom folder I added to the start button which are System Tools, Office, Multimedia, CDRW Tools, Graphics, and so on... And have shotcuts on the desktop for commonly used folders on the hard disk..

Are you using the [i m g] [/i m g] code?

As in [i m g]website address of the image[/i m g]? (Spaces used to display code)

Or you can use our Attach file feature at the bottom of every post where you can attach an image.
