I was just lurking around over at [H]ardOCP today, just signed up over there yesterday, looking around in there DC threads, when I ran across this one, check out the sig for the third post, 280GHz dedicated to Folding, http://www.hardforum.com/showthread.php?s=&threadid=730217 , Damn.... How many does Zippy & PU & the others have each. Man if we could get this guy to crunch FaD for us, TSC would have even a harder time catching up. But being [H]ardOCP supposedly has a FaD team that porbably out of the question, though I still haven't found any threads about it yet.

Just to approximate based on a weekly average we have 44k CPU rating, my Athlon at 1Ghz get's a rating of 93 so...

480Ghz crunching here, just going by the number, that might not be the most accurate way of measuring, but considering plum is probably aroun 70Ghz or more by himself it doesn't seem taht off, I'ld say about 450Ghz approx for our team :)

I have 32-36 GHz crunching here at any given time,
with another 5-8 ( hopefully ) in remotes.

[H]ardOCP and OCAU (www.overclockers.com.au/folding/) have some HUGE herds in their Folding teams!! They have had some really great battles for the No 1 spot. :)

RustyGT set up a FAD team at OCAU in the hope of showing them how good a client it is and attracting some of their DCer's. Has already got a few with some nice cows in his team.

They also have regular competitions where they give way hardware for crunching with. Would be nice if we could do something similar - would need some sponsorship, though. ;)

For those with a penchant for checking out some nice diskless DC farms, both of those sites have some real experts in this.

Cheers

Yeah a couple of years ago over at EL, they had tried the prize thing with crunching, we were doing F@H, I think they gave away like 2 prizes in the first 2 months then evryone kinda gave up, cause the people that were winning were the ones with all the Horesepower to do it, & those of us with one lowly machine at the time couldn't even compete, so alot of us gave up on it.

Yeah, there's some guys out there that have huge herds. I ran Folding for a while at [H]ardOCP on some twin cpu systems I had.It was better than UD for Linux and twincpu's.But neither has the personel touch we get from Think.

What were the terms of the competition? If it was something like "most points," then an obvious "duh!" to the winners being the ones who don't deserve the prize computers.

A better idea would be to give a prize to the person who recruits the most people. I think that's more fair.

We looked at "most improved" once before as an idea, ie, the biggest % improvement in output for a given time span. n00b crunchers were an obvious issue we didn't really come to terms with, though - needed a different set of rules for them.

If we could get some stuff, a competition might be a nice little booster for us. Have to be able to cater for international participants as well, though, IMO. :D

Oh, and the prize must be used as a dedicated FAD cruncher. Of course.

I think one time a prize was for who had the best average points uploaded over a given period of time or something like that & the other time it was something like Mick said, the biggest improvement or something.

Over at BBtech they just had a drawing for the UD members.Everybody could either donated parts or money to buy parts for building\ modding a cruncher. Say like $5 a ticket. And ya had to be a active\producing member of the team.
