So I just installed my second 2.4 xeon processor, (and yes it is the same sSpec #, which i learned about the hard way), and my computer is doing this weird thing where it will power up when i switch on the surge protector, but I don't actually hit the power button. The computer doesn't boot either, and I don't hear the beep to know it's booting correctly.

The motherboard is an xw6000.

Does anyone have ANY IDEA why the computer would be doing this?

Welcome to XPC, sideffect8! :)

Did you double check the PWR and Reset leads from the case to the mobo?

Also, what are the rest of the specs on that box?

Yes,

I checked the leads and they are ok. I removed the 2nd processor from the socket and reattached it and now the computer will not power up untill i hit the power button. However, the system still will not boot up.

Would the system not boot up if the heatsink applied to the new processor was faulty. I would imagine that a faulty heatsink would cause problems, but i don't think it would prevent the system from booting, right?

The rest of the specs?
-xw6000 running windows xp pro
-the cpu's are 2.4 xeons/533fsb/512/1.4v

(the heatsink that shipped in the xeon box would not fit on the motherboard, so i had to buy a new heatsink that would fit)

So!
It turns out that the motherboard has sockets for a p4, not a xeon, processor. However, both sockets are xeons, which means they fit xeon processors but p4 retention clips for the heatsinks!!??? So what's a brotha gonna do but epoxy the retention clips that came with the processor to the motherboard.

Next Problem:
VRMS!!
Does anyone know where I can purchase a VRM for this second processor? The system won't boot up without a second VRM.

thanks
