When I try to start the Xp service "IPSEC" I get an error message "operation performed on something that is not a socket Error 10106
This I believe prevents the browser from viewing web pages. The NIC is loaded and working, the TCP/IP is loaded, and the ISP is configured correctly. Yet I cannot connect to the net and fails to find the mail server.
Any help would be appreciated

I have no idea what the problem is but you might take a look in your event viewer and see if it will give you any clues.

Could it be a DoS attack?

have you pinged yourself to see if the NIC actually responds?

Ping 127.0.0.1 see if the NIC is funtioning.
