Hello, first time poster... need a lil help if possible..
Problem:
I have a D-link DI-604 ethernet router and attempting to run bulletproof 2.21 server with it. So I hit up both websites to see how to set it up, follow their directions to a tee... Attempt to connect with my 2nd computer, viola works! So i send a couple msg's to friends to try and access my server... they can connect, but get this error where my home director won't show up and they end up timing out. Using port 21 and all the basic stuff, and double check everything, but nothing works..
Anyone know what I should do ? <3

Ha ! I'm an expert at having problems with DI-604's. Here's a "bug" which D-Link support in Sweden weren't even aware of: if you're running XP, switch the XP firewall off. You can at least check it.
For that tip, maybe you can help the solve my "Problem-of-the-Day": is it possible to run one computer (out of four) as static link, and if so, how do I work out it's MAC address....

Have you tried assigning it a static IP address via the router control panel?

The problem arose because I was doing some "maintenance" under my desk, and by error popped Fred (Computer #4) in to Emma (#3)'s hole and vice-versa. So now they are fighting over the same D-Link IP-address !
By limiting the range of addresses from 100 to 150 I have managed to get a new address for #3, but #4 won't play ball - I keep getting a connected-unconnected-connected-unconnected doo-dah.
I tried re-installing , new factorty settings etc etc, switching off overnight, etc - at least 3 hours worth !!!
Now I'll trying a new physical cable, and the static address thing...watch this space !

Did you ever use the "reset" button on the router? On most of them they are on the back and they are below the surface where you have to use a paperclip or something to get in there.

A little progress. I've switched machines on the faulty port. That resulted in a permanent connection with the router instead of the connected-disconnected-connected circus !
But I can't re-set the IP address which the router has assigned to the machine. It wants it to be known as 169.254.6.44 (whoever that is) instead of 192.168.0.xxx !!
There's not much else I can do except talk to D-Link and/or throw the router out of the window !!!

Who is your ISP? Many ISP's now days have started blocking ports that services such as FTP and HTTP run on unless you have a business account as running server services such as those mentioned are against their TOS (Terms Of Service).
Have you verified that your ISP allows traffic on those ports?

As I said above, "the problem arose because I was doing some "maintenance" under my desk, and by error popped Fred (Computer #4) in to Emma (#3)'s hole and vice-versa. Your ISP might have changed things TT...... Also my reply was to Mainly directed to Juice since it was the thread he started and he hasn't mentioned that he is on a connection that is known to support server services :)

haha
They do support it. I had a linksys router that worked perfectly with bulletproof. The settings of the D-Link are complete opposite of the linksys and nothing I read helps me fix it =(

Care to explain more about how you got it working, juice?
Always nice to know!

okay, the D-link DI-604 names its port forwarding as Virtual Server FTP and then has a seperate page for passive port setup (applications). So i put my ip in private ip, priv port 20, public port 21, TCP and clicked always... then went over to applications tab right off to the left... clicked enable, named it bulletproof ftp, trigger ports that i wanted, TCP, public port again 21, TCP. and apply... then went into bulletproof and made listen on port number: 21. then down to passive mode tab.. clicked use passive mode ip, fixed ip, entered my wan.. then passive port range i put my trigger port ranges in.. viola!
I got caught up w/the application adding, i thought just making the virtual server it would automatically make my passive ports for me.. but apparently not... so it works! woo woo!
