Linux Question / Problem

Just installed SuSe 6.2, when I start computer and get to LILO, this is what I get.

LILO boot: ( here I enter XXXX )

Loading XXXX...........

Uncompressing linux...

crc error

- - System halted



Does anyone know what "crc error" means? And what can I do about it?

Something to do with checksums - corrupt file???

It can mean there are bad sectors on the hard drive..bad memory..a bad installation. It's a tough one. Did you check the MD5sums on the img file you downloaded?

This is an old retail box set, 6 disks, 2 floppys, and manual. Would a scratch on the CD cause this?

It's a possibility RK. Does the drive have any bad sectors?

Did yuo verify the medium - the cdr's

It's just something I do everytime I do an install -

It must be a problem with the scratch on the 6.2 install disk. I got an OEM copy of SuSe 7.2 and it installed fine. 7.2 is up and running.
