Hello everyone I'm new to all this and I'm starting to build my fist mod pc... when I looked at the case I wanted to get I thought it hade a door to hide the cd/dvd/writers from view... but it doesnt and I allready have the drives that are white and my new case is black....has anyone done any mods to change the color of the face of a dvd rom drive??? I thought of painting them but then there is the factor of just making it look like @#$% or @$##$ up the hardware and then there was a maybe with a plastic stuff you heat onto it?? okay... or do I just need to brake out the black per marker??? any tips or ideas on that would be great....

I do case modding.

What I would suggest is to first remove all removable parts like the besel.
I would then take a low or light grit sandpaper and do a once-over on the besel. Just enough to smooth out any imperfections.
Then, I would do about 8-10 light layers with a black spray paint (matching closest to your your drive - I usually use Rustoleum) just enought to change the color slightly overall (not just in one spot) - kinda like strying to use a misting hair spray.
After each small layer (dont drown the parts) - let it dry in the sun (this works best).
Repeat (usually 8-10 times) until satisfied.
If your case is glossy black, instead of textured (plastic) black, use clear coat (I usually use Rustoleum here). You want 5-10 layers on this, letting each light layer dry after you apply it.
I've done numerous drives (floppy, cd-rom, dvd, even those pesky slot-load dvd drives) and this is the best method in my opinion.

I don't use heat to apply it. I use the sun, it won't get too hot and any it will dry faster on dry days.

I think black vinyl dye works best. It stains the plastic bezel and is very easy and forgiving. If it looks like you've applied too much and runs just let it set for an hour or two. It will absorb in and looks very professional without alot of work and hassle. I use it all the time and it's just so hard to screw it up. You can find it at most auto supply stores. I get mine from Auto Zone.

dumb question time CC....how do you get the front bezel off? it looks like it should just pop off, but something is holding it on. can i take a screwdriver to it?
