NDC: remember when I asked about matching proc's and you said they didn't have to be? well over at Snob Land (http://www.techimo.com/forum/t20720.html) :) they're saying they have to be in order for a duallie set up.
Intel Processor fequency ID Utility v 4.5 tells me this:

Proc. #1
cpu type 0

cpu family 6

cpu model 8

cpu stepping 6

cpu revision 8

Proc. #2------------------

cpu type 0

cpu family 6

cpu model 8

cpu stepping 3

cpu revision 14

-----------------------------
level 2 cache 256 KB
level 1 cache 16 KB
Level 1 instruction cache 16 KB are the same on both proc's.

Does it matter NDC that the other numbers don't match up? I like to pick up a set of 1 Ghz proc's in June, and I like to be sure of all this.
Thanks

Yes, I am sure... Steppings do not have to match. Heck, I've seen people who run mixed processors. Although I wouldn't recommend this since you would have to cripple the faster chip to the slower one...

Cool, I'll take your word for it as 99.99% of ya all know more about these things then me..
Any sugestions on reading about this type of stuff. I'm interested in learning more.
Thanks

If think I remember reading an article (on SysOpt... a long time ago) about running 2 different CPU's in a dual CPU setup.
The 2 CPU's were a Celeron 300 and a PIII 450.
The Celeron was o'clocked at 450 and the PC was running just fine (as long as the Celeron did not overheat).

I checked SysOpt but could find the article...
Anyone else remeber that???

Yes, I remember that article by Joel Kleppinger. I wasn't able to find it either...
