Our local DSL provider in Cincinnati is going thru major network upgrades. They will now offer a standard service speed :
3mbits down, 768Kbits up!! (for $41 a month)
The only reason I stayed with our cable company (InsightBB) was because of the 3Mbit downstream. But, in November, they changed the upstream cap from 384kb to 128kb. I don't care what they say, it has affected my overall enjoyment of both downstream and upstream traffic. I could get 384k thru the cable, but they want $80 a month for it!!

So, today, I signed up for DSL. been a cable user for more than 6 years now. Anyone want to buy a Toshiba cable modem? Only 2 years old :)

DSL - you're not sharing your bandwidth either. Wish I could get it.

I have DSL down here in CA - not bad, about 1.2Mbps avg speed :)

I still plan to keep dsl when I move.

I was DSL for 4 years and now I am paying less for 5X the speed. I will never go back unless the speeds increase and the cost goes WAY down

When I quit hosting my own servers I dropped my DSL but I can tell you my DSL was a lot more stable and consistant than my comcast cable connection. I brought Comcast into the home almost 2 months before the change cause I got a sweet deal on it for 4 months and then DSL rates dropped to just kick me in the pants again

That's like when I beta tested for Cox where I live, I paid $100 on the modem and $25 setup fee. When they fully offered it after everyone was "able" to get it, the price was $50 and six months free or Free cable modem with 1 year subscription. Phooey!

Darn Mntsnow :(
Yeah sometimes that happens.
I got SBC Yahoo DSL for $34.95, then they lowered the promo price for new customers to $29.95...then so on, etc.

I'd only use cable if my neighbors don't use it (but thats quite rare).

got my dsl working 24 hours ago. its great so far. not hitting the 768 upstream (waivers around 500-650k) but that is WAY better than the 128k i got with insightbb.com's cable. I've been a cable modem user since 1996. This is my first DSL line and so far its great. I haven't moved my web servers over to it yet because I need to figure out how I am going to configure my network. I'll have cable and DSL overlapping for a month then its cable to the curb.
~3mbits down and ~500-650kbits upstream for $42 a month? I'm sold.

I switched to dsl because cable uptime sucked where I live. When DirectvDSL went out of business, I switched to cable for the better part of one day...the same old up/down problems and deterioration of bandwidth at night vs mid day just stirred up old hatreds for cable.

Now I'm with sbc dsl/static and I'm able to be happy, although it is more expensive.

Too bad that is just a myth/wives tale. They are all shared bandwidth, just one is in your yard, the other is at the CO.
