Hi guys ... ;)
Here is my problem .. pure and simple and driving me crazy ..
My GF is in the UAE .. she uses MSN messenger and PalTalk to talk with her brother in the US and friends in Austria and Belgium...etc without problems ..

I`m in Japan ..
*When i try to speak with her through MSNM, she gets a message that my PC is behind a firewall (which i`m not) or my network is not ready try again later ... i used to have ZoneAlarm but i uninstalled it because i knew about its problem with MSNM ...
*When i use Yahoo messenger, i enable voice chat then i get a message that she is behind a firewall ...
*Also i can`t voice chat through PalTalk ...

Now, my hardware and connection are fine, i voice chat daily with my sister (in the US) using Yahoo messenger (i didn`t try MSNM with my sister coz she uses ZA) ...

BTW, i can type chat with my GF .. the voice is the only problem ...

Do you have any idea what the problem is? any suggestions? do you know of any other programs that might actually work?

My PC :
XP1900+, 8KHA+, 768MB. Intel NIC, AC97, winXP Pro (updated with update wizard) ... speakers and mic are fine ...
All of my messengers are latest versions .. ZA is no longer on my PC, and i haven't enabled the XP firewall ...
Using Cable connection ... no proxy ... when i installed my OS it detected my connection without putting any kind of info from my side ...

GF`s PC:
winME on dial up .. i have no idea about the hardware but it is a fairly new PC...

Have you given Netmeeting a try? That's what I use under Windows XP and Windows 2000... Works great! :)

I will give it a try .. although i`m sure i will have the same problem ..:(

BTW, is NetMeeting pre-installed by default in winXP ?.. i can`t find it in the start menu !!
I saw its folder in program files but when i double click the icon nothing happens ...

Thanx NDC ;)

Yes, in Windows XP, there is no shortcut for Netmeeting. Just go to the Netmeeting folder located in the Program Files folder and double click on the conf.exe file...

I will give it a shot and tell my GF to try it ...

Yep that's it :)
Do you connect directly to the net with your computer?
Or are you on a network?

Well surreal .. i have a Cable service, direct connection to the internet .. connecting my Network card to a Cable Modem that the Cable company gave me ...:D

Could it be somthing wrong with my IP? should i install a Proxy Server? ..

I tried to chat with Thud the other day .. he got the same message that my GF got .. somthing like this *the PC you`re trying to connect to, is having a network problem or netwrok not ready*

Regards

No! :D
Give netmeeting a try first. If it doesn't work we can go from there :)
If you had a problem yahoo chat wouldn't have worked..

Thanx again ;)

Another great program for voice chat is Firetalk. I'm pretty sure it's still a freeware application...
