I found the following article from TweakTown (http://www.tweaktown.com) to be very informative, and I highly recommend it to those who are looking for a new upgrade for their computer system and need a little assistance in making that decision. Most major upgrades are going to be anywhere from $50-500, so you might as well do a little research before you spend those big bucks. This guide will cover the basics on the main components of a computer system and include the Editor's own recommendations for each component in two virtual categories: high-end/high-price & mid-range/affordable. The following components listed are: Processors, Motherboards, DDR Memory, Video Cards, Hard Drives, DVD & CD Burner's, and Sound Cards & Monitors.

"This guide is here to give you a good idea of the products on the market that can fulfill your requirements. The first product listed is the top of the range model, which you will find hard to obtain a better product. Mind you, different people will have different opinions over what is the best, so this is giving you a product that is definitely up there with the best. The second product listed is one that gives excellent performance relative to its price. Again, different people will like different things, but this also gives you an idea of what to look for."

The article should be listed as being for power gamers running 3d stuff and simulators.....

The components they suggest are total over-kill for someone like myself that enjoys simple strategy games......

I'm in the crowd of people who thinks that, currently, a 32MB video card is good enough - but then I also don't run XP - .....

I did like the reviews on the CD drives -

Part that was notibly missing was an overview on power supplies. With the high end P4 chips - that has become much more important.

I have to go back and read it again - but from my view - overkill can be good - the graphics stuff is where the soup turns to broth in a lotta cases - and the cpu takes a beatin during somethings.
