Hey everyone,

This question is directed primarily at Mntsnow, but if anyone else can help it'd be great. I just installed SME Server 6.0 and have it up and running successfully. (It had to have been the easiest installation I've ever encountered.)

My main reason for setting it up was to serve webpages (duh!) but I was hoping to server dynamically created pages using mysql and php, however, I can't seem to find anywhere to activate said components.

If they aren't installed by default, is it possible to install them afterwards? And if so, how?

Thanks for the help and guidance,

Jason.

The SME Server 6.0 is very nice. Mysql and php are installed by default and active on the primary website but you will need to check the box to activate php/cgi on any "ibays" that you setup.

To access some of the more more advanced features (easier administration and such I would suggest that you install a couple of specialty rpms to make life a little bit easier.

You can find the rpms and such for the sme server at http://www.contribs.org/contribs/ and the couple that I would suggest getting installed are

phpmyadmin
sysmon
services panel
sysinfo
ftp user root
awstats
spamassassin

If you need me to round these up for you can I do so and have them in a single zip file for you to download from me if need be. Just let me know.

Enjoy!

Mike

Thanks for the info Mntsnow, and quick too!

If I need those files I'll post back here, but I imagine I can find them on my own.

Thanks again.

here you go I still had most of them saved on my HD http://mntsnow.com/temp/sme6goodies.zip the only one I didnt have that I would suggest is the spamassassin one and the best place to get that one from and setup is at

Do you know how to escape the Server Console and obtain a command prompt? I haven't been able to find out how.

Nevermind. Got it solved. alt+f2 for those who might need to know.

I assume you are at actual physical keyboard for the server? If so you must have it setup to automatically boot into the "admin" screen. to get out of that choose #7 or Alt F2 and that will bring you out to the standard command line interface and then type "root" and your password . I personally would change the startup option to "login" that way when it boots up it will bring you the standard log in. Then if you type admin and the root/admin password it gives you the admin screen if you type root and the password you get the command line.

I would suggest downloading and using a ssh client (I personally use "Putty") to log in and do any CL work that I need to do.

ASSP works better than spamassassin on SME
but its not for the weak at heart
Id also reccommend:
Back 2 workstation
port forward/port open
proxypass

depends on if they have a how to for 6 yet

Hi,

I have putty and used it a lot to admin my SME 5.6 box. But now I have upgraded to 6.0. I cannot seem to get in with Putty.

Do I need to enable anything at the SME?

Thanks for your help
