I am currently looking into setting up an FTP server from one of my machines.
I have the following setup, and am completely unsure of what software to use, or how to configure it!
I have a router, which DHCP's to all my PC's.
Any help would be grand! :)

What OS?, How long is your DHCP leases? Are you wanting this just for the LAN or are you wanting it public? If for public are you willing to run the risks of having a server on your LAN possibly compromised? Will this be a dedicated FTP server or is a workstation used for other purposes and if so what type of purposes?
Don't you just love questions answered with more questions? :D

W2k.
DHCP currently is 24hr, but the PC's are never off, so they remain static!
Public, it will be a dedicated PC, with no real connection to others on the network..
Athlon 2xxx, 512...

So I assume you will run this comp in a DMZ zone? Or simply regular with a hardware firewall with a port open for it?

No idea what any of that means! I know there are DMZ options within the router though :)

I know of DMZ's and so on, but not why they exist or how to set them up etc - treat me as a n00b in this respect!
In terms of FTP server setup, config, and opening it to certain users only on the web... I know nothing! :D

as of course :p
a DMZ(DeMilitarized Zone) exists for the purpose of running special services when a regular setup wont cut the meat (ie, firewall is too prohibitive).
In a DMZ, the computer is unprotected (the firewall is not present, unless you have a software one) therefore all ports are open to that computer, which means that you risk more by exposing this computer.
(BTW, I make for a bad teacher. Someone help me out here :D)

I understood that fully... I guess you are better than you thought! :D
There is the option for a DMZ in my router, so fair enough :)
But as to the FTP side..?

For FTP you will need to open port 21 and possably 20 21 is the control port and 20 is the data port for FTP traffic
