View Full Version : How can he be called compassionate?

Bush cost me my job, my kids and my houses
Thank you for giving me the opportunity to speak my mind. I lost my job this past year. When Clinton was president I was secure and prosperous, but in the last year, we had to close our operations. We simply could not compete with foreign labor. This foreign labor worked for low pay under very bad conditions.
They worked very long shifts, and many even died on the job.
This competition could hardly be called "fair." I was forced out of the place where I had worked for 34 years.
Not a single government program was there to help me.
How can Bush call himself "compassionate?" Far worse, I lost two of my sons in Bush's evil war in Iraq. They gave their lives for their country, and for what? So that Bush's oil buddies can get rich. My pain of losing my sons is indescribable.
While it is trivial next to the loss of my sons, I regret to say that I also lost my home. I simply have nothing left. How can Bush call himself a Christian when he neglects people like me? I am a senior citizen with various medical problems. I'm not in a position where I can begin a new career. I was reduced to the point where I had to live in a hole in a ground, all because of President Bush.
And when the authorities found me there, did they have any compassion for my misfortune and ailments? No, I was arrested. Mr. Bush, I dare you to look me in the face and tell me you are a compassionate man! I dare you to look me in the face and tell me you are a Christian. If I had any money left, I would donate it to the Democrat Party.
If Al Gore had been elected in 2000 I would still have a job, a home, and most importantly, my dear sons!
Regards,
Saddam Hussein

I must admit that I find several of the above comments about democrats in the military (whether meant jokingly or no) to be rude, insensitive, and insulting.
Shall I tell my father, a skier and mountain climber in the 10th Mountain during WWII, who lost an eye in Italy, that he has no business being proud of his military service? He does consulting work for the army, is not at all anti-military, and is an ardent democrat. By the way, he was in the same class at Yale as Bush Sr., and thinks GWB is a disgrace to the country.
Shall I tell my neighbor and friend from across the street, a special forces guy who was severly disabled in Vietnam (Cambodia actually, so that officially he mostly wasn't there), that he has no business flying his POW MIA flag because he is a democrat?
How about one of my closest friends, a high school football hero in his hometown who volunteered for Vietnam and was a lieutenant there, and who wasted away from diabetes and cancer years after being repeatedly sprayed with agent orange? Should he have been the recipient of some of your comments because his politics were very left?
How about people like George McGovern, a bomber pilot in Europe who won the Distinguished Flying Cross after flying 35 combat missions; should he have been a "Down Range Round Catcher"?
Why don't some of you think a bit before insulting people so rudely.

Let me point out a couple things that you have not taken into thought or context Angela. (I'm not a Republican, I'm non-partisan, for what that matters I don't know.)
The people you are pointing out served at a different time than today. The Democrats as a whole, have changed much over the years, as have the Republicans as a whole. The Democrats since Carter have tended to be v-e-r-y anti-military and have decimated our military strength and morale every chance they've had. The Republicans on the other hand have tried to rebuild and undo what the previous Democratic administration has done.
In todays military, you will find a majority side with the Republican Party, because it has pandered to the military and tried to raise the pay, morale, and equipment improvements. The military will always support their Commander-in-Chief, but that doesn't mean they like or support the party he belongs to. (Realize you will not get a resounding yea or nay from the military as to any political party.)
Ask your Disabled Vets what party is/was responsible for reducing Veterans benefits, VA funding, retirement pay, etc. With a little research, you'll find that it has mostly happened under the leadership of the Democratic Party in recent years.
Personally, I went in to the military under a Democrat President and came out under a Republican President (Carter/Bush Sr.), and I've watched what has happened to the military under both parties.

I would see that you are one of those that lack a sense of humor. Yes there have been many Democrats in the Military and I am sure that there will be many more. God Bless them.
I was refering to the way that the Democratic Party AS A WHOLE has done everything in their power to eliminate the Military. Among those things are:
1: FORCED RETIREMENT
2: PAY CUTS
3: LOWERED MILITARY BUDGET
These things had all but crippled our Military.
Cry all you want and take it how you want. It wont change the fact that Democrats have done more to cripple the Military than most other things combined.

I apologize for taking so long to get back to this.
After thinking a lot about all the above, I realize that what I'm really objecting to is the idea that it is funny to joke about beating people up or shooting them because of their political beliefs. This (as we all know) happens under totalitarian and facist governments. This also happens occasionally in countries like our own. During the civil rights movement of the 50's and 60's, as I recall, it happened quite a bit. So no, I don't think it's funny, no matter who is telling the "joke".
