I've been recieving a bunch of the "automatated You have a virus" notifications from stupid email admin's that don't realize they are only contributing to the problem as they are not sending the email notification to who is infected but who's addy is spoofed.

now that i think of it, NAV2k4 popped up yestereday tellin me i had a virus/worm and it couldnt access the file to repair or delete it...i had to go into the folder it was in and manually delete it with the government wipe that comes bundled with nsw2k3....even then the virus scanner was goin haywire, i had to reboot and run XP recovery wizard

I was a victim of a email hijack where someone used my email address (not actual - just the name) in order to spread a virus. This reached a mailing list (small but effective) and because this was thought to be legitimate, 15-20 people were infected. After investigation, the matter was resolved that it did not originate from me (headers) but I was still taken for.

One might consider that identity theft.

Yeah thats what I'm talking about Soopa..... I know of a couple of companys that have dealt already with over 20K of infected emails...and still growing each hour....

Now as for me personally....My personal email server (family's domains and such) is currently dealing with 250-270 inbound attempts on average since last night (my addy and daughter's the most used addy's) so far a High of 301 emails in an hour.

Ehm no idea, i always delete spam right away without checking, and my other 2 mail accounts don't get this spam.

I have XPC and Yahoo mail, not Outlook or OE, so I don't keep an address book on the box!

I do use Outlook express, but like i said, i haven't received anything, and if i did then it's already gone.

1 so far. Actually, it was someone else's virus prot that sent me the spoofed email. Just updated AVG and tested, clean. Also, just ran Housecall, clean also.

Have had 5 at work so far today. Email scanner takes the attchments out before it delivers 'em, but I still see 'em.

Funny thing is, it's not MY email addy they are addressed to. It's just my first name, and my email addy is first inital plus surname.

I've asked the Help desk to stop these getting to me. We don't have anyone with an email addy with just the first name.

Addit; Just has a delivery failure sent to me from that address. It's spamming others from this fictious address as well. :rolleyes:

I usually don't pay attention to these virus warnings. I stick with the old if I don't know you it's bye bye for your email.
But if your running a business that reqires emails from strangers I guess it can be a bit nerve wracking............:(

heh, only emails i get are the xpc notices sayin i have new pm's or new replys to subscribed topics(like this one :D :D :D)

occasionally i get stuff from other forums too, or microsoft will email me about beta testing...thats it :p
