Well, for the 3rd day in a row, I've woken up due to a broken CPAP mask. This time I've used extra duct tape. I've probably got a half a roll on the stupid thing, but anyways. I'm venting.

This wake-up prompted me to read my emails - don't ask, I was awake that long. On one funny note, I got an ebay "question to seller." Well, either this person is a total idiot, which I suspect, or someone is toying with me - once again, don't ask.

Here is an excerpt of the email...
I was wondering if you had anymore OEM or Retail software
available for me to purchase.

I am looking for
Win 98/2000/XP/03 Server OEM or Retail
Office 97/2000/XP/03 SBE or Pro OEM or retail
All .NET Products Retail or OEM
All recent Adobe product

Please let me know prices and quantities.
If you have any friends who sell software please have them contact me.
I am always looking to turn Software into cash for Everyone

Please let me know if Ebay cancels this auction I am still interested...
I have paypal available now...

First of all, I thought, is this a joke? The reason being is because in the first place, I am not selling software - of any kind. The second problem is, the "user" is suggesting that he or she is already involved in a transaction with me or had been. Of which, I am not.

At first I thought this person maybe mistook me for someone else and emailed me because of wanting more software. Then I got nosy, so I did some research. Further investigation revealed the so-called buyer is not involved in any transaction or ever has been. He or she was just registered.... yesterday (1-26-04). This got me to thinking...

Either this person is a total idiot, or someone is trying to get to me. I especially love the part... if ebay cancels this auction...
Why should they? I'm selling a book, not something against ebays rules. As far as I know, I'm selling a book. Although it does have a CD inside the jacket wall (still sealed). Oh well.

Either way, he (or she) is busted. I notified ebay about this "bidder." :D

Actually, I'm thinking along the lines of spam myself because of ... I am always looking to turn Software into cash for Everyone or maybe I should read between the lines.

UPDATE: After doing more research, this person is soliciting people for software to resell on their website. It just so happened that my auction was a dual-listing (listing also under the Windows XP software category) and that's how he got me.

I'm pretty careful when it comes to eBay. Thanks for the consideration. I've been on eBay for almost six years now. (Reg Aug 98) and have been perusing since then. I've seen about a hundred different scams come and go.

I was almost taken with a laptop early in 2003 because of a bad feeling, I opted out because of a very nice Christian woman who worked at Western Union. I thought the deal was too good to be true and almost bid on it. It was a $1500 laptop they were selling for $900 - with free shipping. But I had a sneaky suspicion that something was wrong and only emailed the seller. The seller told me that he was selling it for someone else. That erased any doubt in my mind it was a fraud. I was certain. We'll I decided to play along and emailed back. More stuff. This time, it was about the shipping. Luckily I was going to disprove everything so I did as much research as I could on what the laptop had, all details, etc. They were "close" but no cigar.
I played along some more. This time, I decided to say yes, I'll take it. I knew full well that it was a fraud and that I would try to get them on something. So they said Ok, and I asked about payment. I said I'll do paypal (money back thing), they said they don't accept Paypal, that they took Western Union money orders only - another red flag (I knew WU MOs had no money back option on it in case of fraud - they've probably added something since then but I refuse to use WU for my eBay purchases. They told me that if I would send the money that night, they'd go ahead and send out the package then. - Another red flag. I said ok, so half an hour later, they email me with a tracking number. I look it up and the package weighs 6lbs. Well, I thought, there's another red flag. The laptop weighed over 8lbs before anything else (packing, box, etc). I played along. I had more than enough to pay for this but, because i knew it was a fraud. I went to WU online and saw it would cost $70 in fees just to get this money order. I emailed them back about the $70 and they told me, to get an $830 money order - A major red flag. Ok, so then I called WU and explained the situation to someone there, as I opted out of an online purchase. I told her about what was going on. She asked where it was originating and the name. I told her. It turned out they were investigating that person for fraud. She explained to me that 3 other people had already sent him money for the exact same item. It was 1 auction and they were doing transactions outside of ebay. How's that for using the old noggin?

Bought a house, double-wide just got heat and waiting on tax money for water and septic.

I've gotten that email before, cc. Back in early 2003 I sold windows NT 4.0 on ebay. Same exact wording, wish I'd kept it. I replied saying I had nothing and never heard another peep. Prolly the same moron...

I forgot a smiley... :D

Here we call them "manufactured homes". But, a trailer is a trailer is a trailer. :)

Aren't all homes manufactured? A house has to be built, a tree has to grow, even a cave has to be fashioned some way!

Many hundreds of them! :D

But they, like brick buildings and tower blocks are all 'manufactured', I had to smile at the expression as I cannot think of a domicile which is not manufactured!
